I spent 5 months in a 14 x 14 shed. Really wasn't a problem. But I was also living next to my house as it was being built, might have helped my attitude some.

DH and i lived in WAAAY under 900 square feet for out first 3 apartments: we were perfectly happy! I think that our smallest place was 400 square feet.

What made us comfortable was that all three apartmentsn had a modern bathroom, heating and air conditioning, and a kitchionette or better. With a child, well, he will need a spot that you do not see when you are sitting down: if you are reading about your latest interest you will be more comfortable if you are not surrounded by a Batman decor! With a child a bedroom for him to play in with a door you can close when you want to is priceless!

My sister lives in N. CA in a Tuff Shed similar to the fourth picture in this link:
http://tinyhouseblog.com/pre-fab/tuff-shed-tiny-houses/

She loves it but it is VERY small. She has a sleeping loft and plenty of storage, can cook in it, etc. She also spends most of her time outside.

We recently built a 16x20 chicken house. It would be very easy to live in, at least before the chickens pooped on the floor.

Check out this youtube video series. He goes from a lot of land with nothing on it, to a open cabin shell, and does the interior .......step by step. Very interesting and really neat to see it go from nothing to an actual tiny house where he, his wife and 3 children live. Nicely done!!!

We keep spending the night in the camper by the lake----we are happy!

Kirstie and I first house we lived in was a 12 by 18 house. Was a old grain office moved and made into a house. All I say is cabin fever when winter hit and yea wasn't fun experience for a year. We had a dog (lab) lol in there too.

It is interesting how cabin fever is a problem for some but not others. I wonder if cabin fever is something like claustrophobia that some people have or if it is a difference in management. We have five people living in 252 sq-ft but we spend most of our time outdoors farming, doing construction, etc. No claustrophobia or cabin fever after seven years even with our deep cold winter periods. We also have seven to 13 dogs (varies over time) and once in a while they'll all come in for a visit. That is a full house! Small homes aren't for everyone but work really well for some. I also like the ultra low real estate tax bill every year!

Would you be willing to post pictures? I like the idea of a small house. It's hard to find info on bigger-than-tiny-but-smaller-than-normal. There seems to be no name for this type of housing.

Please do an inside tour. I have seen all your pics from the outside but would love to see the inside especially storage areas. As much thought as you put into this house there will definitely be awesome ideas inside.

I am currently remodeling a 14' X 24' building that I moved onto my place. To this gloriously large 336 sq ft that I don't use all of now, I will be adding an extravagant 14' X 14' summer kitchen onto one end for a total of 532 sq ft. That's where I really need lots of room is in the kitchen. The summer kitchen will be heated in the winter, but no air conditioning in the summer. Just an exhaust fan pulling air through the wrap around windows and lots of shade.

I do like living in a small space. Less to clean and keep warm or cool. I think the key is spending a lot of my time outside.

I spent last summer in a camper van that was 19ft long from bumper to bumper. My cabin seems very spacious in comparison! I am anxious for better weather to get here so that I can get a bathroom installed. Running water is an amazing thing.

We have been living in a 21 x 24 for 5 years it does have a full loft 12 x 24 that makes up a room for my two girls. Started out as an addition for a camper then the camper was removed and its space was closed in.

Maybe one day I'll get it finished

Eight years ago I lived with my homeschooled 16 yr. old son in an 18 ft. shasta travel trailer. That was the bets six months for us. We had just enough electric topower the laptop, his gameboy and a few lights and 12 v shurflo. so often after the log cabin was built i wished we'd stayed in the trailer. the past 3 years i've livd in very tiny homes, under 120 sf. and it was always roomy and warm cause i had no belongings. now i am in a 16 x 22 ft cabin with part of the a 6 ' front porch- it feels large in some ways and very small in others. but i don't see any reason for a bigger home. tiny feels right in many ways.

Yes, I am planning on doing the small house or tiny house project. I have bought property and am looking at getting the lot ready to build this coming summer once the ground has thawed out.

I live in a very tiny home. I do have to be creative with storage but I love my little house and it suits me just fine. The upstairs is a 1/2 story but the pitch of the roof means space up there is quite limited and it is short as well. My 6 foot tall brother practically bumps his head on the ceiling. LOL! I make use of every bit of it.

The dog in the front is just 12-14 pounds - gives you a little idea of scale. The main level is about 350 square feet plus another 150 bump out at the back where the kitchen and bath are.

Small house but room for nice gardens in the back! I now have 18 raised beds for veggies that are 4x8.

I have been living in 780 sq ft. for about 2 months now & "HATE" it!!!! no room for nothing except basics...if i had my canning supplys etc..etc...everything would be stacked on top of each other & it almost is that way anyways.....i have LOTS of shelving i made for storage & everything has a place & not much in cabinets either or counter space...it is so close quarters...

This is much better than living in the camping trailer though!!! cannot complain as i am still blessed i have a place to live in till new house gets built but WOULD NOT do it for the rest of my life!!!! no way/no how!!!only "IF" i had to!! not much space for nothing~~
