Another vote for anything Ariat. One time I counted and I had 22 pairs of various styles from hunt boots to paddock boots to rubber boots to work boots to sandals. I live in the waterproof Terrains. The workmanship is excellent, and the comfort is outstanding. There are good deals at the horse fairs, and I used to find some at a little hardware store near us that has recently closed. Tack stores rarely have deals, but they have selection.

Since I ride English I don't have any Fat Babys, but I know people who do and love them. They wear hard.

I have a pair of womens Twisted X brand boots- decorated like cowboy boots, big round toe and heel-less goodtraction sole of a work boot. I ordered online, and found them true to size. These boots are leather, and i waterproofed them. They are amazing! I cannot reccomend these boots highly enough! Yay for Twisted X!

I'll state that I've never ridden in my Fat Baby's. My grandpa would turn over in his grave if I got on a horse in those things! They're good for getting around, though!

For what it's worth Doc Martens are awesome work boots. The soles are non slip for a variety of stuff, and they take a beating. I get mine for cheap at resale. I have a pair that took a good long soaking in the ocean while trying to wrestle a sailboat off a beach and came out like nothing happened after a little shoe polish(salt water is awful for shoes). The soles are cushy for all day.

Just blew my August food budget (40$) for a calf high lace up red pair with red floral leather for moto/pirate boots like new. Thank god for this food storage habit--you can pick up that buy and eat rice n beans for a month haha!

I like Muck boots, they are comfortable and warm and water proof. They are not tough enough for the woods. This year I have been wearing plain ole el cheapo gum boots for working outside and in the barn. I have this habit of taking my boots off before entering the house. DH and DS have lace up boots and it is inconvenient to take them off, so they track dirt in all day that I get to clean up. I have some army boots that are hardy, but I hate spending the time to lace them up and modern shoelaces do not stay tied and tight. My Mucks should last another winter, but I have to spring for a new pair soon.

Regarding leather boots: I think the most important thing is to buy good quality but of near equal importance is how you care for them. Many years ago I had a job where I needed to wear sneakers but they got soaking wet everyday. I asked my local shoe shop guy how to make them last longer. He put me onto Meltonian Shoe Cream--it has mink oil and lanolin. He said that when leather is drying the damage is being done. That is when it starts to crack and split. Those new, all leather, sneakers lasted for more than a year under those conditions--prior to the Meltonian that were splitting out every two to three months.

That is the only shoe care product I have used on any shoes since then. Every pair, whether work boots or dress shoes, has enjoyed a much longer lifespan than I had ever gotten before. You can probably find it at your local shoe shop, if you have one, or can order it online from numerous places--including Amazon. It comes in small jars but a little goes a long way and if you keep the lid on it after using it will last for years. Comes in neutral and every color you might want.

Whatever leather boot you choose, make good friends with saddle soap and a really good leather dressing. Either the shoe cream mentioned , or something like Huberd's Boot Grease. You need to get the dirt out of the top layer of leather before you replace the oils to keep from cracking as it dries. Both steps make all the difference...

I used to love mine until I started making real moccasins, now I'm addicted. But I've not figured out how to make moccasins waterproof yet, so my muck boots and barn boots are the only conventional shoes left in the house. I wear homemade sandals and moccasins most of the time. My feet just don't fit right in standard shoes.

I rarely wear shoes let alone boots-but the best boots I have worn are Schechers womans ,one was lumber jack boots -they had biger lugs on the sole. The other a pair of Schechers womans work boots both in black. I have wide feet from going barefoot all my life(that's what non barefooters say anyway) They fit real nice. Another boot, are Harley Davison boots, well made and they used to be all made in the USA,but can't vouch for that now. I have some knee length HD boots, going on 20 years.I'll probably die in them cutten up some firewood(cookstove for sure) in a skirt when I'm 80.

I love L.L. Beans Maine Hunting Boots. Been a fan for years and years, and you can get the soles replaced.
