What is your Price for Propane?
$1.77/gal delivered here in rural west NM. Pretty good price for me I think. So I have 200 gal now in the 250 gal tank, 80% full. Good to go for winter.
I use space heaters for supp heat in addition to wood stove. |
$1.35/gal We're putting in 3 - 500 gallon tanks next week, so they gave us a whole $.04/gal off.
|
I don't have a big tank, but it costs me $22 to fill a 30 pound tank.
|
$1.139 in central Illinois a couple weeks ago.

1.66 here is the lowest but they will jack it up soon.
|
We paid $1.699 to have our 250 gal tank topped off about two weeks ago.
|
I can bet that !! $3.89 to fill my 100 pound cylinder at the house. Yep..and it has cost more in the past.. |
No fair!!!
$2.56 for 700 gal in WA. |
$1.12 a gallon for a 2000 gallon commitment, payments spread over 11 months. They deliver when they figure I'm low, and they've never left me on the lean side. It's a farmer's co-op, and in addition to heating their homes, many around here use it for drying grain in the bins.

1.19 for orders over 500 gallons, cash in 10 days.

Our house and grounds can accomodate quite a few guests. We've had as many as 34 stay for a three day weekend and several will stay for a week or so. Propane runs backup propane heaters. We only run the ones in the downstairs bathroom and our bedroom if it's really cold. The rest are turned off but could be used if we ran out of wood - VERY unlikely but ....... We heat with wood but those two rooms can get cool sometimes due to where they are. We use propane to run the downstairs refrigerator. Main floor one is electric. We use propane for the instant hot water heater. And, we use propane for cooking in both kitchens. When we have guests, and we have a lot, there are 14 pilot lights going on 10 burners, 3 ovens, a big griddle and a salamander. We have a 1,100 gal tank that I get filled once a year and it usually takes 500-700 gal dependingmon how many guests we have and what time of year it is. If it was just the two of us and only the occasional guest or two we could kill some pilots, cook a lot less and have a LOT fewer showers/baths. |
1.59 here.
|
The last time I looked it was about $1.30 a gallon if you bought 200 gallons or more. If I called around I could have got it for less without the minimum purchase.
I hope you own your own tanks instead of renting. If you own the tank, you can shop around for the best deal instead of being at the mercy of the company that rents you the tank. A few of you said you have tanks measured in pounds instead of gallons. You will pay about triple for the privilege of bringing your tanks to the station and having them filled. It seems the propane companies have jumped on the same bandwagon as the gas companies. They are gouging you if they can. There should not be this big a disparity among different parts of the country. Being close to the source doesn't seem to be a factor. I don't think we produce any natural gas of oil in MN. They do in PA. |
$1.69/gal when I put 150 gal in my 250 gal tank about a month ago.

I only have a 120 gallon tank as it is a back up source. I really like propane heat however and find I use it more than I thought I would. It is good for a quick heat in the morning to take the chill out of the air but I never use it at night. I pay 2.49 a gallon summer rate. If I had a big tank (over 250 gallon) I would pay 2.19 for summer rate. Winter rate is higher.
|
We just paid $2.60 a gallon for gas we don't even use. Buh bye $285 :(
The VA wants to see everything up and running to refi :( Tomorrow we try to turn on the furnace that hasn't been touched in over 5 years, It'd better be working, it's really old. |
Summer fill price here was $1.45 a gallon. Payment due in September. Likely the price per gallon will be higher for the next fill in December. We only use it for our furnace.
|
We paid $2.49 a gallon at our last fill-up in April. We haven't shopped around much, though. I'd love to get a better rate! I was surprised to see how quickly we ran through a 500-gal tank during the winter (first year in this house, never heated with propane before). On the bright side, the dial hasn't moved much since the weather got warm...
|
What's the going rate now?
We had a fill on 1/1/14 and got charged 4.59/gal and we own our tanks. This is with AmeriGas in Maryland. Thankfully, they dropped the price per gallon to 3.98 when I called in about how high the price was. There are also the HazMat Fee and the Fuel Recovery Fee adding up to about $18 for a grand total bill of $480.65.
I have a curtain up on the kitchen doorway and we try to heat only the kitchen as much as possible but we do have to keep the rest of the house at least above freezing. lol Our biggest problem is the age of the house and decrepitness of the windows etc... Still, that ppg is way too high, I think. Input? Lavender Blue |
Our last fill was $5.10 /gal. I have no idea why it is so high in Maryland when our gasoline prices are usually around the national average.
|
Yikes, Mistletoad! That is even worse! Thanks for the reply.

1.86 prepay (50 bucks before season to lock in the price) Delivered.
Driver did say its a good bit higher for those that did not lock in. |
I filled up my customer owned 500 gal tank about a month ago. I call 4 different propane suppliers and tell them I own my tank and am shopping for the best price. This time, I paid $1.69 per gal with no delivery fee.
This is in WA state. |
Still 1.12 a gallon, as we committed in a contract last summer that fixed our price through April.
Mistletoad, your price is hair raising! You definitely have my sympathy. |
Propane is $2.85/gal in 1,000 gallon tank delivery.
Gasoline is $3.55/gal. |
I wondervwhy the difference?
|
I just paid $2.39/gal yesterday.... I thought that was pretty high...in summer I usually pay $1.89
|
92 cents a litre here, however just east of us one of the big suppliers is in receivership so there's no propane at all available to their customers apparently (no one else will fill their tanks because the receiver could come to collect them at any time, no one will touch the fittings to put in another tank due to liability.) Lots of wood stoves being put in in a hurry.

$2.51 a gallon here in n.y.
|
We have 2 different suppliers because of having 2 different propane systems in use here. The 500 gallon tank price is 1.39 on contract for delivered refill up to 12-14 and the 2 - 100 gallon tanks are not on contract/fixed price and most recent refill was 2.19 for delivered. The delivery guy told us to expect the price to go up. The smaller system runs heat/cookstove in the new shop and the larger tank/system runs the generator that backs up the electricity for both house and new shop. It comes on automatically once a week and runs for half an hour to keep the system working and it's also wired to automatically take over if/when the electric power goes out here. And if all that fails we have a woodstove in the house for emergency heat/cooking. And this is more info than OP asked for. Sorry.

$2.59/gal when I filled my 250 gal (owned) tank to 80% just before Christmas. I thought that was pretty steep till I read what some of you guys are paying
Mary |
Jan. 4, delivery price on owned tank was $3.3631 gal, not quite $20 on the fees. Called around, for 500 or more gals best price was $3.33.
|
If you can, fill your tank only in the summer when the prices are lowest.
The local feed store also sells propane. The price on Tuesday was $2.89 if you were buying less than 200 gallons and $2.39 if more. Their lower price is about what other suppliers charge too. |
It was $5.69 a gal here in south eastern NY for propane last time I got a fill around 2 months ago but I only use it for cooking so I'm not sure if you get a break for larger quantities. Gasoline is around $3.50 right now.
|
$2.30 here in Oklahoma

Since we own our own tank we called several places. One place we have bought from had a better price but would not deal with us since it has been 2 years since we bought from them. The place we bought from this time says that they are even allowing folks that have tanks rented through them to buy propane elsewhere if they can get it. We are seeing very tight supplies, with suppliers that normally get 3 deliveries a week only getting one. |
