My AAA Plus card says "member since 1976," 37 years, so I suppose I agree it's worth having in some configuration. I used to drive all over the US on sales and delivery business in a 1-ton van, plus had local driving in a normal sedan. I had to be discreet when on the sales trips if I had a breakdown, I don't think "business" usage was supposed to be covered, but with no company logo or anything on the van, nor commercial tags, everyone seemed to just treat it as a big load moving or camping or whatever. Never had to use the towing service a lot, but as others say, it's really nice when you do. One year my normal "transportation" local car started having problems stalling with several tows needed and garages not getting it diagnosed correctly; AAA phoned me up pushing me to go to a AAA garage then got to the point that there *is* a limit on total service calls within some period of time. It wouldn't work to be a total slacker abusing road service for a junker car, in other words.
Especially if you can drop by one of their offices, the free maps are nice, plus they carry travellers' checks and have extensive travel agent services, and those discounts with some motels and other services. One downside, though, is that response can be slow... 2 or 3 hours... during peak holiday travel weekends and during rush hours in cities, or during bad road conditions like heavy rain or snow.

Well worth it. Last month, I had to travel for work and ended up with a flat on route 81, over 100 miles from home. Called AAA, and had a service truck show up to change my tire within 1/2 hour.
If you ever need a vehicle towed, which happens to us nearly every year, due to having older ones, the cost of membership is less than the cost of a tow.

I have it and love it, have used them twice in the last year and they sent someone out within a few minutes each time. Another plus: Just got new eyeglasses and used the AAA discount of 30% off with Lenscrafters. Saved me over $200 which paid for the AAA membership.
For my horse trailer - I use: http://www.usrider.org/index2.html
I do not know if they will tow RVs, might check. But they do a bang up job with horse folks and their trailers/horses.

We had AAA for a number of years. We liked it, though there are some peculiarities about it that come as surprises at inopportune times. If you are single it is probably a very good good idea. It is the person that is insured more than the vehicle.. you need a membership for every driver in the family to be completely covered.
We finally canceled our membership, as our vehicles got more dependable, children moved away from home, belted tires all but eliminated flats, and our jobs became easier to take a few hours away from if we needed to transport one another. We travel much less now and have a local towing company that is both dependable and inexpensive.

Have it for myself and college age kids..
It covers the person , so if they are traveling with others
and break down, have a flat, lock a key in the car they can call AAA.
I use it lots with dead batteries, keys locked in car..Love it

We stopped renewing our AAA membership and switched to Better World Club. More expensive, but they cover trailers as well as offer bicycle roadside assistance (DH does a lot of long distance cycling). We also like that they don't use membership fees to lobby against cleaner environment practices (like the Clean Air Act, mass transit, bike paths). I was disappointed when I learned that AAA does these things.

Just got AAA after my Geico roadside screwed me over again on towing. I got the top line for the 100 mile towing because my commute is 63 miles.

I've had it over 30 years and probably only needed roadside service 3 or 4 times. I figure it pays for itself with the multitude of discounts available, everything from florists to rental cars. Just a few nights in a motel will often save me more than the yearly fee.

I have it, but haven't had to use it in years...knock on wood. They've always come when I've called.

We've had AAA insurance, auto membership and home insurance a VERY long time. Hubby had AAA auto insurance before we were married so that makes ummm....36 years of AAA. We had one home insurance claim for a robbery, they paid that off well, too.
DH won't think of using anyone else, they pay the auto accident claims very promptly. He certainly has had considerable experience in that department. We have the 100 mile tow, as well. Worth it.

I've always been pleased with AAA. One year I switched to AARP's version as it was cheaper. When I needed them, I was told they didn't provide service in my area. I asked why they sold me the coverage - no good answer. They sent an ad to my home address. The zip code they used was quite long so they had to know exactly where I lived. Finally they agreed to reimburse me for a tow but I had to pay first. They finally paid but it took about 6 weeks.
