Why

paint it? Unless you need to impress someone, don't waste the money if you're worried about the cost. Paint doesn't stop rust.

What kinds of paint are there? Which is best? (Polyurethane, alkyd, etc?)
How do you get the lettering off (the 3D trim lettering that says "Isuzu P'up" on the front fender) -- does it pry off?

My husband says he once painted a VW Bug -- he said, Sure you go ahead...and breathe the horrible fumes, and do all the masking & prepping and then you'll see that the paint places earn their money.
if you put the hardner in the paint it will harden andyou wont be able to spray it
there are many different paints with different qualities laquer easy to paint wont last long polyurethane fumes cause cancer need a resperator to use straight enamel good but has a soft finish easy to scratch my favorite is acrylic enamey one shot coverage hard finish easy to get a smoth finish you also have base coat clear coat but thats alot of spraying.
to get the letters off use a non metalic scraper (apice of plexiglass sharpened).and a heat gun or some stores have a spray on remover.
yes its work prepping a good paint job but you will be paying yourself not someone else for work you can do would you like to earn 10.00 an hr?
