In a sodded area cut out and remove the sod. Lay it to the side. put down a tarp or piece of plywood to pile your dirt on. Bury the item, replace dirt and sod. Water sod and spread extra dirt away from bury site. In a day you will not know anything was put there. GPS the site or measure from two known points or better yet three known points.
