Neighbor just had a huge maple cut down. No problem hauling off the brush and then someone else taking the wood. The "ton" of coarse chainsaw sawdust looked like a big job with a rake. My bagging mower made easy work out of it. Ended up with 9 leaf bags as full as I wanted to drag to the truck. It was then spread between potato rows in their plot and between rows in regular plots. After a few rains, they are already turning black and breaking down to humus and an excellent amendment for the heavy soil.

What great ideas!!! Some ended up between the rows of the garden and around the strawberries. Some has been raked into the lawn. Some went into the compost bin. When it's time to cut down a tree in the future, I have great ideas on sawdust use.

One use not mentioned is vegetable storage. Get a deep Rubbermaid container and dig a pit just big enough to submerge it to the top. Pack layers of carrots, rutabagas, or beets with sawdust. They'll store all winter and spring and you'll still have them when summer arrives.

I'd use it as mulch in the flower bed.
