Just wanted to say we spent a month on Worthley Pond/Peru last summer & thought we'd died & gone to heaven.

Skies are clear and sun is shining today (Monday), forecast for Caribou is for frost tomorrow morning and chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday. Neighbor was fishing up north, spent four days in the rain!

Along with watching for certain phases of the moon, rainy days are good for fishing too.

Speaking of snakes... there are NO poisonous snakes in Maine.
Also trivia: Maine is the only state in the US bordered by only one other state.

That is some nice area
Though I prefer down South here in Penobscot County.
Really? Why? It is not cold today. Wet, but not cold.
I came from California, and I [We] love it here
Why is that an idea to measure anything by?
Is there something in NH you need or want? If so, then live in NH.
All NH is to me, is 15 miles of interstate with a state operated liquor store in the middle.
Among all the folks I do business with, I doubt if more than a handful have been to NH in the past year. 5 years maybe if you include bus trips to Foxwoods.
I do not understand what draw the Southern border has. Central Maine and Northern Maine both have the low land prices, low taxes, low Cost-Of-Living, room to spread out and live.
I do not think I would ever want to live in an urban environment again. Any place with more than 10 people per-square-mile is just too built up.

Yes. You love everything about it here. Give it some time. He is getting at how long it takes to actually get anywhere from here , if you can...

I have camped in that drizzle/rain we had. Pretty cold tolerant is different that that. Hide under a tarp and drink coffee. Curse the weather gods and whoever decided camping was a good idea.

Never in my dreams would I have imagined helping wild beavers to drag logs.
But I live in Maine now

Except for the Gabon Viper that was found behind the strip mall near Portland.
Sure that was released by some idiot... But I sure thought we had the rare(veryx10) rattler or copperhead down headed to BOS way.
Aren't the bugs gonna come out to play once it goes warm Friday. I hope they get to experience it. They need to, just to see it for themselves.

Wind out of the south (rain usually) hook is in their mouth.
Old Maine Guide lore, heard it in the Allagash, Nugent's Sporting camp, Chamberlain Lake.

Wow, a lot of replies! Sorry to took so long to get back to you all. We ENJOYED ourselves and the boys could care less about the flies...They were in the water at the warmer part of the end of the week for HOURS and would come in all bloodied-up..The wife and I felt like horrible parents but we couldn't get them to stay inside for anything!
We ended up extending out stay because we found a nice parcel that we fell in love with and we put in an offer which was accepted We will be closing on the land in a few weeks!
The location is 15 minutes outside of Houlton - 6 acres; 3 wooded and 3 open pastures. BUT the best part of it all is the 320+ feet of river frontage - I will learn how to fly fish!
We took a lot of family photos, so I will have to post some later this week. I've attached a few of our soon-to-be property.

Congratulations! It's beautiful and a great place for your kids to grow up. Nothing like having a good source of running water on your land and Brookies are just icing on the cake
Wishing you many happy years there.

MDfamilyman, you will love that area. Houlton has a great farmer's market your wife might want to participate in with her homemade goods. By the way, God Bless you for serving our Country and thank you for serving for our freedom. All the best to you.

My Dad was born and raised in Aroostook Co. He was born in 1900. He had a lot of stories of growing up there. He grew peas and potatoes, had a small dairy and cut a lot of pulpwood. He talked about how the roads were rolled instead of plowed. This allowed sleds and stone boats on the roads all winter. No bare roads. He talked about how big the loads of pulpwood were. So much snow you couldn't plow as there was no where to pile it. The barn was attached to the house because you couldn't shovel it. As a kid walking to school, he could walk right over the telephone lines, the snow was so deep Pretty country....James
