I live a mile and 3/4 at the head of a holler, up on a hill - I don't get out much.

After paying at the Post Office for 2 packages to 2 HTers, I left my change on the counter.

The lady behind me was holding 2 envelopes in her hand, and I said "I've been challenged by a friend to pay your your bill for you".

She was recently widowed, and was quite delighted at the gesture.
She was registering some letters pertaining to her husband's estate. I added a ten to cover it.

I have already set up another one for America's Birthday on 4th of July. There will be a lot of free ice cream given to surprised customers at a local ice cream shop. The customers in turn can pay for another customer's ice cream if they want - or just have their own free ice cream.

When I talked to the manager she talked to her boss and he is adding in some $$$'s and so is the manager. They love the idea.

Everyone's stories are just so refreshing. I know each person that has passed it on has the same kind of story. The reason and how you gave or helped or were there for someone is wonderful.

Grandma, I like watching this thread, especially hearing what ideas people have to make other people smile.

The movie "Pay it forward", much like 'pass it forward', is worth watching, I cried at the end.
I once, hemmed some pants for a co-worker, and he wanted to know what to pay me and I told him to pay it forward. He'd never heard of the concept. I hope when he saw the movie, he let it lead him in paying it forward.

I try to do it everyday, even if it's just a kind word or a smile!

Some woman paid for everyone's meal in a restaurant in Florida.
$2600 and a $50 tip to every server.
They suspect it is a lottery winner. She denies it. I suspect it is someone from HT.

Shrek, that's a great story and it reminded me of my grandparents. They raised their own six kids during the Depression but when Papa found a little neighbor boy beaten and crying in the ditch, he and Grandmother raised him too. My "uncle" grew up to be a fine man. His biological father was a drunk, had beaten the boy pretty thoroughly and told him not to come home or he'd get worse.
