I'm really tired of people talking bad about a breed they've not raised or been around and believe what the media feeds them on a daily basis. Rant over.
Remember we generally respond based on our experiences. I'd expect we all have had a variety of experiences. I have seen hundreds of Pit Bulls and the similar breeds. But, nearly all of them have been in Detroit. In the Detroit Animal Shelter, built in 1924, walk down rows of glazed tile kennels, full of vicious Pit Bulls. See the freezer with Pit Bulls stacked up like cordwood. Many without heads, because the heads were sent to the Lab for rabies testing, following an attack.

I've seen the scars on the Animal Control Officers from Pit Bulls that were protecting their territory, a vacant home. I read the police reports.

I stop short of seeking a total ban, as many communities have done, because people will just move from Pits to Stafordshires or any other similar breed.

I love dogs. I'd discourage you from getting a working dog, like a Border Collie unless you had a herd or flock or 6 hours a day to play fetch. It is a shame to keep a Beagle on a chain 24/7. I think many mixed breed dogs are wonderful, yet may crosses result in conflicting instincts.

If you have room to foster a Pit bull while a more family friendly dog gets a shot of Fatal Plus, that's your choice. But I just want to be clear that I oppose the plan.

Pit mix. Don't let it scare you though. My dad had a pit mix for 14 years, one of the best dogs I ever met. How you treat them is more important than the breed.
