Some have mentioned the kind of husband you are or should be looking for. Since you have one already, AND since he seems to be finding himself in this kind of life, I consider this topic to be not of much use to you
You might get on U Tubes, and look up Urban Farming or Back yard gardening. Im positive it will give you a myriad of ideas to do, not only to keep you more busy and productive, BUT to increase the overall sq ft of area you now use.
As has been said. Now is the time to learn as much of farming/gardening/homesteading, as you can.
Before you find the ideal place in the country, you should already know these sciences.. I say science, cause that is what most are to me lol.
Canning, drying food, Butchering, smokeing, Useing the signs for all that you do, small engine repair. Large engine repair, welding and torching, container gardening, raising whatever livestock they will let you raise there, where your at. Getting, at least all the hand tools, gardening and wrenches, ect, that you will need when you are at the place you want to be.
IF when you get close to a property that you might think you want,. There are places you can go for a few days to a week and learn how to farm. Generally with horses, but there are a few with oxen and tractors also. Good luck.

Hi there I was working on completing my BA in Business Management when I realized what I really wanted to do was be a farmer. I want the fresh food, the manual labor, the feeling of working hard and seeing my efforts come to fruition. I want to be surrounded by plants and animals. I want the whole lifestyle. I graduated to an economy in a recession, which just fueled my desire to work for myself and be independent. That was a few years ago and I'm 24 now.
My parents have since decided that they too want to be much more self-sufficient and we've been working together for over a year now to find land. I spend a lot of time imagining how our farm will be, and researching for it. My mom researches even more. Some days it feels like we're standing still, like we're never going realize these dreams. But then I go and spend some time in the greenhouse or with the chickens and I feel revitalized. If that doesn't work, usually looking at pretty farm pictures on blogs or videos of farms like Polyface will do the trick

There's no rule that you have to have a lot friends your age. You will probably be happier spending time with people that have similar interests, no matter what their ages. I am 28 and most of my friends are in their 40s and 50s--including my husband--because that is who I can relate too. I don't want to spend my life constantly explaining myself...although I don't mind teaching others that have a genuine interest in my lifestyle. It's nice to be around people that 'just get it'.

I get that, and I have a lot of older friends as well, many I met through homesteading, however I feel like that was one of my SO's biggest obstacles in all of this. Not being able to discuss things in his daily life with his friends. At least, none that were interested in hearing about it. Where I live the other young adults our age are in the "party" stage. The lack of common interests has lost us quite a few friends. It's a little sad to think about but I think it bothers him a lot more than it does me.
However, he has finally found something that interests him (beekeeping) and will be getting his first package of bees in about two weeks. In the past month he has helped clear a new garden bed, build a chicken coop and is building me a better compost bin. I love seeing him finally interested in it since the past few years he has pretty much stood on the outside of it all.

Part if it may be where you are at too. Even though FL has lots of agriculture, things seem to center more around city life. As far as meeting people, online is a good place, or as suggested, get involved in 4H or FFA. If you guys are from my neck of the woods, maybe you and your bf could come out for a visit. I'm on a few acres and have beehives up and going. Me and my wife are both under 30 too (at least for another year or two), so we are within the 10 years.

Not yet. She said he's getting the bees in a couple weeks. Then he'll be a keeper.

Hahahaha. That made my night.
He's actually done a few removals already and has someone close by he's met with who also keeps bees. He's been stung a few times already.
I don't really mess with the bees but I've gotten a few stings already myself just hanging out watching.

Each of ya keep a pocket knife handy. When stung, just shave over the stinger and youll cut the poison sac off and will hardly notice the bite after 5 mins.

When I was a kid, the local extension agent for bees was dating my mother. He would take me on swarm captures to populate my 2 hives and his 100+ collection of hives. When he saw how bad i swelled up when stung, he advised me to always carry a bee or two in my pocket in case I met a cute girl. I was too naive to understand what he was joking about.

My husband and I use our homesteading to allow us to live a more simple life. For my husband, being able to produce some of our own food and limit our other expenses is mostly about financial security (he wasn't anywhere near as interested before a sever medical condition took him out of the work force resulting in us loosing 60% of our income). For me it is more about knowing where my food comes from, and knowing that I am not hurting the environment. We do not have a large property, but we try to maximize our use of it. Don't be afraid to start small - this is our first summer in our home and all we are doing this year is a large garden and maintaining the existing berry bushes. Each season add something more and show it off!

The man was only somewhat supportive at first. It was just an "okay" from him because it made me happy. Now he gets into it too.
