Yes, Tea Tree oil is both toxic to dogs and cats.
A lot of info on Google about it. Pretty scary how little they need to get into to kill them.

I also 2nd the chickens. Have them running around the house this year. Good as the guineas but less noise.

I didn't want to use chemicals on my pets, however, knowing how easy ticks can carry disease to my pets and the after math of them having to try to live through that...
Have been rotating between Advantage Multi and Revolutions with good results.
Is only applied once a month, so you don't have to worry about putting to much chems on your animals.

Eating a few match heads is the best way to apply sulphur. You sweat it out evenly, and bugs don't like any part of you.

My girlfriend gave me two tick twisters as I work in the country in agricultural field for work (even though I'm in the office, I can walk on my lunch hours) and one for the dog. These are great devices - better than tweezers. Also if you use Neem Oil, that works (smells horrible though) and you need to keep putting on oneself and dog.

I have always used Advantix or Frontline on my two dogs, but on a very limited basis as I hate chemicals! Problem with both is I see live ticks on them 3 weeks after they get it put on & I am not putting it on more often then 4-6 weeks! For the price, it doesn't really work. We like to walk in the fields & woods also. This year I don't know what to do, as my 13 year old dog I believe has a cerebellum tumor & my 11 yo has an eye tumor & I am going to have to get her eye removed. I really don't know if a neuro toxin tick medication is the thing for either of them. Luckily I haven't seen many ticks yet. I do have guineas, but not enough to get them all.

We use Frontline Plus and it is working for our dogs. I just bought permethrin and plan to spray my clothes that I typically wear when out in the tall grass (never put permethrin on your body - spray it on clothes and let it dry completely before wearing).

I hate using chemicals but I hate ticks more. I just picked two of them off my husband yesterday. The Tick Twister works pretty well tho.

I work outside every day and use nothing for ticks or chiggers other than dusting boot tops with sulfur, eating garlic and picking them off (they rarely attach to me). We do use Frontline for the dogs and cats but you still have to pick ticks off of them from time to time.

Ticks dont bother me but I spent some time where leaches were common and I hated them...and I mean I still have bad dreams about those buggers.
