I would not sell to anyone without cash. Just be mighty careful where you deal and don't get into a car or truck with them. Forphase1 has mighty good advice on the above post.

I take it the forklift deal fell through???

Or was he able to dicker the guy down; i.e.

(I won't file charges and you sign the forklift over to me?)

Did they catch him and is he doing time now?

I would go with the above mentioned police station meet if they wouldn't meet you at the bank. A legitimate seller shouldn't have either to fear.

Cash is king. There is a pretty large group of folks in the world that use cash and not much else. So pay cash, it is good for the economy.

If you have doubts, that's good. This is America (still) arm yourself. If still in doubt take another armed person with you.

Has anyone dealt with this and how did you get around it? The seller does not seem shady, I just am not comfortable with that much cash.
I deal cash only, and I bring someone with, and we are both, packin.
I always meet in a VERY public place, day light ONLY
Never had a problem.
6000.00 was the largest cash transaction.

17K for an RV. Met at the bank, signed papers, paid cash, drove off in RV. Straight, fast deal.

Don't know if he is doing time but they got him. I have not seen the guy in a while. It was attempted murder. The guy I know said he was in the passenger seat and saw the guy swing his arm up and he knocked it down and was shot in the leg. Desperate people do desperate things.
And then again, there is pure evil in this world.

When I do something like this i check them out by getting phone numbers, email addresses and use google to see if I can trust them. If google shows them actively selling items or participating in forums, I feel safe.

Thanks everyone. You all covered what I was gonna do if I had to do a cash transaction, which I do.

Told the seller we need to meet in a very public place. Walmart parking lot or something similar I suppose. Bank parking lot would work too.

I thought I had a partner for the ride, but I don't. I'm being as careful as possible. Thought about taking the bride, but now she's giving me static about going so far. I don't think 3 hours is too far, but that's me.

So, anything to look for on a Kubota BX1800? My coworker has a 2200 and all he mentioned was service records, which the seller has and is bringing to the transaction.

I bought a boat off CL a while back from out of town. After we agreed on a price, the seller got the paperwork together, I hooked the boat to my truck, and I followed him to a branch of my bank in his town. I wrote him a check inside the bank, and he cashed it on the spot. The bank had a notary to do the bill of sale, and we both went our separate ways.

He safely got his cash, I had a cancelled check, a bill of sale, and a boat.

once I pulled 12,000 out of my savings acct to buy a trailer. I was so nervous in the bank, I stuffed it down the front of my pants, after looking around to see if anyone was there besides employees. I also have a ccw.

We have sold many things on Craigslist. It is always cash. I personally wouldn't do business with someone who tried to take a picture of me. In fact that would cancel the transaction immediately. I am nothing but an honest person, I always report my sales and expect my buyers to be honest with me.

Don't be stupid, meet in public, get a bill of sale and take only cash.

I buy and sell hot rods a lot. My wife and I have a system down. we NEVER meet the potential buyer at our house. We always pick a parking lot, like a WalMart on a major interstate. We tell the buyers it's for ease of finding us.

My wife carries her 9mm and follows me in her car and sits in the parking lot. I also carry my pistol and if whatever I am selling, say a car....is test driven, she follows us while we test drive it. The test drive always ends at a bank (usually mine) where we can go into together and do a title transfer, deposit the money and everyone is happy.

If it buying deal, she keeps the money in her car and when the deal is finalized, I call her and she brings me the money. I always say she has gone to the bank to get it. Makes the good sellers feel better.

Going to get it tomorrow. Son is riding with me. Talked with the seller and everything is cool. We're meeting at a Sheetz (gas station) near I-81.

We both understand and respect each other's concerns.

In new york i wouldnt doubt it! In virginia people carry (open and/or concealed) all the time. I have been open carrying for over 10 years; bank, grocery store, dentist etc. no one around here seems to care, except a few carpetbaggers!

How about. "my cash, my terms". I suspect he needs my cash more than I need his tractor.

Besides, in case someone has evil intent, cash is way easier to shove in a pocket than a tractor.

Got the tractor today. Everything went completely smooth. Did some laps in my backyard when I got home. It's like going from a Yugo to a Cadillac. Daddy likes.
