There is an auction Saturday and I went by this evening after work because there are some small implements I am hoping for and wanted to see what had been added. But since I was there 2 weeks ago, they have brought in a bunch of tractors. Some junk, some too big and some that just dont interest me.
But, here are 4 that do and did and I can only wish.
My 856 ( wishing )
A really clean 4020 with new seat, wheels in front, some tins , starter and its been cleaned and made ready.
A faded but straight 5000 utility
and a solid but rough M on steel in rear. They used this as a shredder tractor in the mesquite, cat claw and huisache.
I'd add all of these to my place if the check book allowed.

Had a neighbor that rebuilt several "Poppin Johns" over the years. He is probably 1/4 mile away. You could always tell when it was Saturday.

Im workin on my 39 A JD.. Its been a pip. The bottom and rear, trans, engine is the same as the unstyled. only the tank, wheels, steering post grill is new 30. It was an experimental model/year. They changed a BUNCH of stuff in 40/41, IM finding lots of stuff thats HARD to find for an A thaT I cant find. Different fan shroud for example. I made a newer one fit.

If I could, Id line up JDs down one fence, Farmalls down the other side and all the rest could fill the middle

What Id really like would be to have 1 each of all the tractors I was around as a kid growing up and then after I started buying my own. Each brings back memories.
The list would look like
Farmall Super M
Farmall 300
Farmall H
Farmall Super C
Farmall 706 Diesel
Farmall 560 Diesel
Farmall 560 Gas
Farmall 856 Diesel
International 1566 Diesel
Case 930 Diesel Rice Special
Oliver 1850 Diesel
Ford 5000 Row Crop Diesel
Ford 8N
John Deere 99 2 row cotton picker
John Deere 55 round back combine
Farmall 1 row cotton picker mounted on a 300 or Super M or a H or a Super C
There were some others, but they really dont conjure up memories like this list does.

Some of the JD Poppers are still running strong 60-70 years later.
Tough old tractors, sound cool too.
A bucket tractor would be nice though.
Heres my 51 M and implements

I would also like some tractors I had early. Always liked the IH model 856 wheatland with FWD. I wanted it bad but IH credit wouldn't work with a 16 year old kid, so I went to JD and they sold me a 4020 JD with a canopy, Powershift, FWA and 18.4x38" rear tires. Wish I had it now, worth a few bucks. I traded it for a 4430 because I wanted a cab tractor. The 40 series was the best tractors I had. Best was the 4240 with powershift and FWA. Stayed with JD the rest of my farming years. If I was farming now I would still run 2 or 3 of them....James

Slightly newer than asked for , ~1978 IH986 in original condition, but my favorite tractor of all times.

Nice! One like that showed up a couple years back for cheap. And I had the money but it was a cab tractor and it wouldnt work under all these pecan trees. If it had been open, it would be here now.

The M/MT JD was the first JD tractor to be started with a crank, other than the starter.

DH likes the JD 1520 and 1530. Big enough to run the JD 327 baler, agile enough to make the corners with the 1209 haybine. I like it for raking - but he makes me use the big JD so he can bale with the other. We had a Leyland 272, great solid tank of a tractor, DH had stripped it down and repainted it years ago. Sold it 4 or 5 years ago for twice what we paid. Still miss that one, but I'd be glad to have another 1520 or 1530 instead.
