I am an newbie to livestock. It does sound like Murphy's Law has caused problems to happen while you were away from the animals, and you were not able to insure that things were taken care of properly. It probably won't be the last time, so be as proactive as you can.
Rick, you might want to read some of her livestock posts going back a few years, in cattle, pigs, and a several other types. I have had various types of livestock my whole life, have lived in both farm and ranch areas and I have not known anyone to loose this many assorted animals to a variety of unknown or unadmitted reasons. It is hard to believe that everyone, including several of her vets could be so wrong. There is bad luck and then there is more than bad luck.

Just wanted to ad that baby goats die for no reason at all sometimes. I have had them fine one night & dead the next. Kind of like SIDS in human babies.

I do find it hard to believe that in 10 years of having goats you have never had one with scours. I do preventive cocci treatment as it is much better than trying to treat them once they have it. My guess would be that first of all. They don't necessarily scour with it all the time either.

I would not offer money back or a replacement. Once an animal leaves my farm it is not my responsibility any longer. I do not know how well they are cared for at their new home. I do not know the living conditions or feeding conditions. If they are healthy when they leave, then it is no longer my problem. I would tell her I was sorry & let it go at that.

Seems a lot of bad things happen when you are out of town. I think I'd stay in town more. We are planning a vaction this fall & I have 1 person I know I can trust to milk & feed for me. If she can't do it, we won't be going.
