That is a good idea, nobody wants to have those running wild.

Earlier this month, Ted Nugent shot 455 of them in one weekend in Texas' Hill Country. Used a machine gun from a helicopter. When MSN reported it, the "bleeding heart" responses were as if he were shooting Babe in a farrowing stall!

It was 100% donated to food pantries. There was a huge crew on the ground handling the hogs as soon as they were shot.

This is not allowed in some states.

By the same people that advocate SNAP benefits for McDonald's

First off, that "blog" is written in Illinois. I grew up there, and worked for a State Rep. in the middle of the battle with environmentalists over large-scale hog confinements. I was working for him when they had the moratorium on construction on large-scale hog farms and it was a mess! This was back in 1996.

Ever since then, there has been a huge backlash against hog producers in Illinois. They have really had to fight to keep their operations alive. And with the vast numbers of people moving to that area because of the affordable land, from Chicago and Peoria, it has really been tough. Imagine having a farm in the same place for 60 years and somebody building a house half mile away last month, then demanding you shut down because of the smell! It was happening in that area of the state.

I always look at anything about hogs and Illinois with skepticism. Too many good farmers have had too much trouble from various "groups".

I raised hogs for 8 years in the late 70's early 80's. Farrow to finish for the NFO. All confinement raised, finishing pens were on concrete, 1/2 of each pen was open to the sky, 1/2 under roof, but the pigs were well taken care of. Each pen got a bale of straw everyday. Feed was in front of them 24/7/365. Lot of good fresh water and air. They were happy pigs....James

Denmark is noted for their ham and it seems that every Dane eats at least one pork product per day. I've been to that country 5 times and saw exactly one old sow and her piglets on what I would call a hobby farm. No outsider ever sees the big operations but one can smell them. The surrounding residents call it the smell of money.
