best place to order pine trees?

anyone know best-cheapest place to order pine trees,,,probably white pine.

BarbadosSheep 02/18/13 04:58 PM

Contact your local forestry department. That is who handles seedling sales in my state. I ordered Christmas tree stock last time I got trees and they were much larger and healthier than the general purpose trees.

luvrulz 02/18/13 05:25 PM

On Arbor Day, our dept of forestry hands them out. Alot of times, not very many people show up and so you can sweet talk your way into lots of free trees! They're provided by the Arbor Foundation so they aren't monsters....

In Wisconsin where I'm at we can get them through the Dept. of Natural Resources. Approximately $30 per 100 3 yr. old seedlings around 12" tall. I am planning on planting 1000 red and white pines this spring. Cheapest I've been able to find.

As BSheep and Luvrulz said I would think your local Dept. of Forestry would be a good place to start.

Mussers nursery, indiana pa. Christmas tree capitol of the world.

Here in MN the DNR just closed the 2 tree nurserys. The paper companies are selling their lands because the gooberment removed favorable property taxes for the timber lands.

I have 20 acres of white pine that are waist high that I have to remove. Anyone want them? I think you can E-mail me through this site.

Ask your state forestry people. It is late to place an order this year but if you can contact the nursery supervisor there are always trees that will not be picked up in any year. How many are you talking about.

Ohio had a state nursery that had pines available, but not enough people were buying, so they closed few years back. They were my source for pitlolly pines, then I moved over to the Missouri State Nursery that offers them, they also have some other pines like white pine, too.

You also might want to check with your land grant university

kellyst 02/19/13 11:45 AM

Are you in Ohio? Most of the county soil and water conservation districts have an annual tree sale every spring. Different ones have different varieties, and most sell seedlings in packs of 5 or 10.

I'm not sure where in Ohio you might be - but locally I know they sell them in Shelby, Logan, and Miami counties. I'm sure there is one near you.

The state of Ohio use to have a big place in Marietta that had all kind of trees, but I believe they are shut down.

We are members of the MN Forestry Association. A sponsoring member of this organization, and a place where many members buy their trees, is Itasca Greenhouse. They only business is growing and selling tree seedlings.

500 white pine seedlings with roots in individual soil plugs - $194 plus shipping

Yes the state is getting out of the nursery business. Seems that a legislator who happens to own a private nursery was able to get a bill passed that took the state out of the equation.

Coup,

Thanks for the message. I am not sure how to reply so i am doing it here.

I bought 34 acres from Potlatch last summer. Twenty acres of it had been logged and replanted about 5 years ago. They planted white pines that are waist high now. I want them gone so i can put in pasture. If someone wants to dig them up and haul them off they can have them. Otherwise I have to hire a dozer to scrape them up into piles for burning. So, ya want some?

coup 02/20/13 05:29 AM

to far away

i would advertise for sale first.............

pumpkinlady 02/20/13 07:39 AM

Near me the County Conservation has an annual sale on trees and sometimes you can get them throught the Game Commission.

kellyst 02/20/13 10:51 AM
