I don't think it's the brazing material that is poisonous so much as the fumes from the brazing process. Once it's done, it's ok to use.
You welders out there, correct me if I'm wrong.

Your joking right? WD 40 Bill ! this is the reason I electrolysis every CI I get. I have seen way to many painted or motor oil on it. EEEK !
Bill just put oven cleaner all over it, place in a tight bag for a few days, once its clean, scrub it many times to get the oven cleaner off. Immediately dry on the stove top until hot. then let cool slightly and cover with oil and cure in an oven. Every time you use it, clean with no soap and dry it on the stove top, put a coat of oil on after it cools a bit, then she is ready for the next use. Eventually it will be as teflon and you will never get rust, unless you cook acid foods like tomatoes in it.
I guess the trick is make sure you dry it hot on the stove top after every washing. Do not leave it there to warp tho...lol

i put a small piece named Henry in the stove. Its oval shaped maybe 6in wide and 10 long. Has a curved raised lip maybe 3/4ths an inch. It says Tabasco in raised letters along with the Henry name, along with some island.
Whats it for?

I use a wire wheel to clean my rusty finds. Usually chucked in the drill press.

I just took it out to look at it after around 15 mins in the fire. The part closest to the fire, the bowl? looked real good, tho red. I brought it out, let it cool, then put it on handle first to get it the same way. I also put 2 pans that had once had wood handles with a rod with a ring at the end of the wood handle and the rod screwed into the CI pans, and 2 dutch ovens, without legs or lids in also.
Gee, See the kinda stuff a guy can get into and get done when he haint got a wimmins around to coach him lol

I think you have a pan from an outdoor cooker that was used camping and used to cook fish in mostly, or maybe what you wanted.
farmboy bill what you have I think was an item bought, most likely from WM at Christmas with seasoning and such to make mexican food and you would cook it the oven and leave it on to serve.

I used my first piece of cast iron today--it was a gift. Made cornbread.

I found out in experiment baking bread, that my no. 5 frying pans make a mean round loaf a homemade bread. I even made a big loaf in a number twelve. Lot easier to get out the oven too!
