I went with uninsulated. I do used them in the winter, but only for short trips to feed and water the animals, get the mail etc. If I'm going to be out longer than a stout pair of wool socks can handle in a rubber boot, Mickey's are my footwear of choice. I am wondering if perhaps that's what caused the latest pair fail, that I was jamming my feet in there with heavy woolen socks, and then walking out in the cold. Not that I think it's an excuse for the failure of Servus's product, but I just like to know what happened you know?
This is reminding me of the first year I worked outside, I didn't own any good winter boots, so what I did is slather an old pair of East German Officer's boots with Sno-seal, and wear as many pairs of insulated socks as I could still jam in the boots. I almost got frost bite a few times, as the cheap socks I had didn't do much good when wet. I happened upon an extra large pair of Seal skinz in the clearance bin, and add those to the mix as the top layer. It was better, but still left me with feet aching from the cold most days. So on the advice of my crew chief, I ponied up for a pair of Mickeys, absolutely awesome. The next year, I bought a few pairs of wool socks, and learned that they were worth the money, and made a good half way between freezing in my leather boots and sweating buckets in the mickeys. Should have been the last lesson I needed in cheaping out on taking care of my feet, unfortunately I'm hard headed.
