Yes, after further reading I realize that this would fall more under primal. I have a goat so the raw milk is normal here.

Supper tonight.
Baba Ganoush burger
Baba Ganoush is made from eggplant. You probably can't buy it but it freezes well, I make it in the summer. Couple of tablespoons mixed with the burger.
Topped with wild mushrooms, avocado, and cheddar.
Brussels sprouts with cheese.

Yes, Primal is more "accurate" for those of us with dairy goats.
We are having redfish, cabbage sauteed in butter, and fruit salad for supper.

I stopped trying to follow any named diet years ago. The way I figure my food is thinking about what would have been historically common and easily available to my early (pre-farming or minimal-farming) ancestors and in which preparations. I figure somewhere in my genetic code is the programming for my metabolism... it's not just "Primal" or "Paleo" or "<insert name here>"
In my case, the majority of my ancestry is Germanic/Scandavian...
Wheat doesn't grow well there and it's labor intensive; but oats, rye and barley were fairly prevalent.... and POTATOES. Not too many beans and warm season veg grow well their either; but peas, all the brassicas, and most winter squashes do. Lots and lots of animal fat & protein... not just meat, also fish, eggs, and dairy. Lots of fermented foods, especially vegetables; and lots of cured meats. Not too many stone fruits; but lots of berries, pears and apples.
I'm sure someone with a different heritage would have a somewhat different dietary profile. Islanders or coastal inhabitants would have more fish, rice, sea vegetables, and less dairy. Fertile valleys and warm climates would have more grains, fruits and beans. Etc. Etc.
One thing for certain, the foods (types, amounts and percentages) most of us are eating these days are NOT normal for any of our genetically programmed metabolisms... most of the food in the supermarkets today isn't even anywhere close to be a real whole food!

FYI: the address for ancient wheat seed @ www.saltspringseed.com is good, but they are no longer able to ship seed to the USA from Canada. Canadians, rejoice! Looks like this site is a good resource.

Diabetic here. I am haveing trouble with the numbers and starting reading this thread. Now I will go to the beginning and read all of it. Started a journal of what I eat and when. What med's are taken and anything I ingest. I have been on the raw food diet for a while but I have weighed the same since I was 17 years old. Now 61. By pass three years ago and that is when the diabetes is supposed to have started. My DW say's the cure is worse than the diesese. Later and I hope this thread keeps on going.

Paleolithic peoples lived all over Asia, Australia, and some Pacific islands.

Does the "Wheat Belly" diet allow the use of other grains, such as oatmeal, barley, rye, etc.?

LOL - I don't have that problem here in Alaska. While I often can't get things shipped to me from the Lower 48, I rarely have problems with the Canadians shipping stuff here as long as there isn't some weird import rrestriction.
Living things (seed included) can be rather difficult to import into AK without proper health certificates and extra paperwork. Most US companies don't bother because they have plenty of business down south. The Canadians often make the effort since we're their neighbor and they like us better than the rest of the US

I doubt they went through the whole process of getting oil from a coconut.

Paleo does not allow any grains.
I think the Wheat Belly may allow SOME of the others, but it's been a year since I read it.

How do you have salad for dinner? If I don't eat heavy protein for dinner my blood sugar is a mess in the morning. I am not diabetic but I am probably heading that way. I probably am Insulin resistant. Either way, dinner has to be heavy protein. I would have my head spinning by 10 pm if i tried to only have salad for dinner

I cant go a no wheat diet since I enjoy an occasional wheat beer .
My oldest daughter and her husband are doing the Paleo diet and its going pretty good for them. My understanding is these 2 diets are very similar.

If your looking at a primeval diet, you would be surprised at how limited the "crop" we're at that time. Look at a map of the origins of crops. The US has just a few.

I eat a lot of chef & cobb salads in the summer when we have tons of fresh greens; but my BG would be all out of whack too if I don't have protein with all those veggies. I can't eat carbs (fruit & veggies included) without also having protein (& fat). Mostly I eat fruit & veg with meat & cheese or hardboiled eggs or avocado or peanut butter. I also can't eat only 2-3 big meals a day without feeling physically ill and brain-fogged. I tend to eat several small meals... not like constant grazing, but 100-200 calories every 2-3 hours. If I don't, my BG gets totally wonky. I don't think large meals that leave you feeling stuffed is normal or natural... every now and then when something's flush or you're going to be really busy for a while, sure, but not every day.

Shy, do you want to learn about the paleo diet? There are some excellent websites on the topic.
