UV lights beat chlorinators IMHO.

I don't blame you for chlorinating it, or however you choose to treat it. My spring is sealed and runs thru a 3" PVC pipe underground to the cistern. Even with these precautions, when I clean out the cistern it always has plenty of crawfish in it, which I assume comes from the spring/cave. So yeah, technically I guess I drink crawdad doo-doo. I try not to think about it too much, but I do at least have filters and UV light to purify it.....at least that's what I keep telling myself. Still alive and kickin for now tho.
Yeah - I found a big ole crawdad as I was digging out the spring. I tried to make sure there were none in there when I closed it up - hoping it stays that way. But - yeah - will try not to think about that. (and certainly won't tell my wife and kids)

They burrow underground so you can never eliminate them from a natural spring

Don't try injecting bleach AFTER it leaves the big tank, unless you have a holding tank near the house, not just a pressure tank. Bleach needs a minimum of 20 minutes to work. If you bleach the water just before you use it, you may have a bad bleach tase and smell and live bacteria in the water. Also, get a supply of either -----sticks or something to test for residual bleach in your drinking water. Too many bacteria will overcome too little bleach......Joe
