My dad's last duty station in the Marines was cooking @ Headquarters. This automatically made him the cook at deer camp. One rainy opening day he burned the spaghetti sauce as we all were getting out of wet clothes.
Someone suggested a crock pot & we never ate any burned food again unless he forgot the pillsbury rolls in the oven.
We've cooked everything at deer camp in a crock pot ever since!

Some of our favorites are:
Cranberry Pork Lion
Chili
Irish Stew
Lasagna (in the crockpot now for church supper!)
You can wrap baking potatoes in foil and "float" them on whatever you are cooking all day in the crockpot. YUMMY!

Oh, Minelson, I am so with you on the kraut and pork, but I also love to chop up apples and onions to go in there, too.
BTW, crock pots are also good for soap making.

I have three of them. The larger one with the removable crock gets the most use. Right now if is full of apples cooking down that I got at the store in the discounted rack. Was going to dehydrate them, but did not have the time to peel and slice them this week so sauce it will be. Maybe let it keep going to make apple butter since I am out of that right now.
I have been using them for years. Back in college I would start brats in beer and onions in the morning before class and have dinner when I got back. The dorm rooms always smelled great and people would drop in.

I sure can't understand why some fail to use one. Boy does it make Great Homemade Chili~! And that chili is even better the next day and the say after that steeping and warming up again in its own juices. Yummy. one thing about Crock Pots. Put stuff in it and Let it do its thing. Don't need to be fussing with things at all. Nice~!

A little off topic but does anyone else feel uneasy about sleeping or going away while your crockpot is cooking? We live in a century old house which if caught fire would go up quickly. I'll only use my crockpot while I'm awake and in the house.

I definitely use it when I'm home but I absolutely use it overnight (to make chicken stock after a chicken dinner) and when I'm out. It really doesn't use much power at all.

I wish there were a way to for it to turn off after cooking instead of sitting on "warm" which is still hot enough to boil. I always overcook meat and veggies in it so I'm not a fan. I do like to make stock in it, though. I'll usually roast enough bones to fill both crockpots with stock ... much easier than having it on the stove!

I just checked - my CP is 265 watts. Would you plug in three lamps into an outlet?

I'm the same way. I will use it over night, but usually the smell of whatever is cooking keeps me awake.
I have a friend who makes me the Crock Pot Queen because I use mine so much!

Oh I like that.
And as far as temps go it varies from size so much and wattage that if a person does not want it to get so hot on different settings get a smaller in wattage one. Mine is only 195 Watts. And at 3 settings I am sure that on Keep Warm setting is 150º if that. Cause it doesn't "boil" things until on the High Setting for an hour or so. And it is only 3 years old and a 5 Quart one, so it is a rather new one.
I also have a newer one that is 7 Quart but that one is a lot hotter at 375 Watts, so that one will be hotter at the different temps settings.

Depends on the electric service in the house.
Our old place up north had ancient, scary wiring. Until we fixed it, the crock pot didn't come out.
New place? No problem. Very recent, very good wiring. Crock pot heaven!

Ya no big deal IF the wiring is fine.
I have mine plugged into the same electrical box I use my Microwave in. Microwave is 1100 Watts, the toaster is also used in that same box which is 800 watts, oh not at the same time. but a 200 watt crock pot is not going to have troubles. I fall asleep with a 850 watt electric space room heater on in the bedroom. Oh how about a a 12,000 BTU AC unit that runs at night while sleeping.
I have it sitting in a area that if something would happen it is very unlikely to catch something else.
And refrigerators run at night too LOL
All must be in correct wired outlets.
And tonight it is going to be 20 some below zero and I just came in from Plugging the Tank Heater in on the car and that is a 1500 Watt heater running all night long with electrical cord directly along side the motor.
Can't worry about such things, a person would never get to sleep LOL
And even when I had animals I had 3,, 1500 Watt heaters going in three different stock tanks. Plus when I was working and real cold nights I also plugged the car in. LOL

I use mine a lot. It is just DH and I, so now that I have learned to use the pressure canner, I will make a big batch of something in the crockpot, and can half for future meals. This week I made a huge pot of chili in it, a roast chicken, and pulled pork barbecue. I have never made anything in it that wasn't amazing. I have two, but I would like one of those with the locks that is especially made for taking places. And a tiny one for dips.

I loved mine when I was working.
I would start something in it the night before and let it do its thing all night long.
Go to work at 5 AM and take off at 11AM to be back home to watch the start of the football game on at noon. LOL
And having everything ready as soon as I got in the door was GREAT,
