My wife and I are doing this in the next 4-5 months. We currently live in Ontario, Canada and are moving to Prince Edward Island. We can't afford rural property here however we can get several acres in PEI well under our budget. Homesteading, here we come. Wish us luck!

Been doing it since I was 15 and my parents moved from Illinois to Alabama. Then I married a soldier, so moved where Uncle Sam sent us. Then I enlisted in the AF, again, moved where Uncle Sam sent me. Again married to a military man. I've lived coast to coast in the US, plus lived in Germany.

I'd like to move close to a lake and just fish all the time.
Shut off your land line and use a cell, but only give out your number to select people.

Thanks for posting more stories. They have been great motivation to just do it. So far, some furniture is gone, some stuff is in the garage for a sale later on, and the guest room is filled with small piles of my antique k9 collection that is being downsized, the 2nd guest room has been cleaned out also, rental property is listed for sale, most of my animals are for sale along with my old Jeep and snow plow combo. Lots more work to do and your stories are a great help!

Moving

Hello We are a military family, so huge moves have been a part of life for us. Let me start at the beginning. When I was 19, I moved from Ohio to Alabama to follow my first husband. I loved Alabama. We got divorced and I met my current husband. He grew up in Alabama and is in the Air Force. I had to pick up and move to Germany. Then back to Alabama 4 months later. Then I joined the Air Force and we drove from Grady, Alabama to Anchorage, Alaska in a Ford Mustang pulling a small U-haul trailer. We were in Alaska for 6 years then moved to northern California. We were there for 3 years and got orders to Turkey. That was the most difficult move. I had to sell our house in a bad market (there were 2 identical houses for sale on the same street as mine and they were nicer). I had to find homes for my 2 horses and the cat. I had to ship one of the dogs to Ohio to stay with my Mom for 2 years and had to rehome one of my other dogs. Then I had to fly 2 dogs to Turkey with me. We now live back in Alabama on a farm. We started out with 46 acres, then bought 20 more. It was all just a pasture and woods and now it's turning in to a farm! We have 3 horses, 5 dogs and a cat.
