My only source of heat is my wood fired boiler in the basement. I take good care of my saws, because they create my fuel to burn. I do use the oil after oil changes for bar oil. I prefer to run it through a fine mesh to filter out any large dirt in the used oil. It's not enough to provide my whole years need, so I mix it 50/50 with store bought bar oil. I've never had a problem either.

We have a 40 year old saw sitting out in the garage that has had nothing but used oil for the bar.

That saw has cut down and up an awful lot of trees.

Well I had plenty of chain oil to do the job today. I filled up twice and still have enough chain oil to probably fill up again. So I didn't have to use any used motor oil. But I agree with some of the folks who thinks it might be alright to use Used motor oil. Anything it better then not having any. Town is 25 miles away and I usually only go about once every 10 to 14 days.

We do have a NAPA parts store nearby but when I stopped in the other day they only had their brand and they was wanting $4.99 per quart. I passed it up hoping I had enough to last till I make it to town. In town I can buy a whole gallon for $8-9 dollars. What a big difference.

I hand split about half the downed tree today but it got to rainning on me so bad that I just loaded the rest of the blocks up on my trailer. I'll get my little wood splitter out tomorrow and finish the rest with it.

I still have to clean up also. I downed this big old dead red oak right in a man's front yard, right in front of his porch. I've downed a lot of trees but this one was scarry since it was so close to his house. I've had trees twist and fall in a different direction then planned and I was shore praying this wasn't gonna be one of those moments. But anywho I've got to go back tomorrow and get rid of the brush that's scattered all across his front yard before he gets back from his weekend trip. Gonna be cold tomorrow but at least it wont be rainning like it did this afternoon.

chain saw oil

I have been using used Syn. motor oil for 30 years. I don"t think I have ever had to replace a bar, only chains that were discarded because of short teeth from sharpening, and I have sawed hundreds of loads of firewood and felled timber. Have Macs. Homelites Huskies, but have used a Stihl for last 20 years. I know it will get empty quicker then the heavy oil so I always check and fill when I gas up.
