Good book to learn with (if you're doing scissors and comb) is "How To Cut Your Own or Anybody Else's Hair" by Bob Bent, illustrations by Jack Bozzi (1975). Very clear line drawings. Probably at your library or a used bookstore.

I have a good friend that is a professional hair stylist. We barter for our haircuts with her. Great job, and she's extremely happy with storing her hay in my barn, fresh eggs, and the occaisional use of my truck and trailer. She's doing DD's hair for Prom on Friday, and she's highlighting mine in a week or so.

Works out good for all of us. I did cut DH's hair-once. It was NOT worth the fuss for the next 3 weeks. I trim DD's bangs between cuts.

The local Vietnamese run place does haircuts here for $3.99, tax included. My 3 boys and I go there about once every 6 weeks. My wife and girls spend much more but only get cuts 3 - 4 times per year each. Still adds up though.

For years DH wanted me to cut his hair instead of paying to have it done. I always resisted because I had no idea how to go about cutting hair and felt I just did not have the “knack” that so many other women seem to have. We finally decided to buy a Flowbee because it looked like I could do minimal damage with it. The first time he went to work with a “Flowbee cut” he actually received a compliment on how nice his hair looked! I’ve been cutting his hair with the Flowbee for three years now and it has paid for itself many times over.

I can handle trimming my bangs. I have real long hair and sometimes can get DH to trim it for me, but I am getting ready to try it myself using instructions I found online here http://members.fortunecity.com/feye/trim/ushape.html. Also, I am really sick of paying an outrageous price for an annual perm and hi-lite, so I am looking into how to do it myself.

Started cutting my own when I was 10. Now my youngest sis says her 10 yr old is cutting her own hair. (I did not put her up to it!
I'm nearly always happier with it when I cut it than when anyone else does. I cut dd too.

I cut everyones hair but mine! I go to a friend from church, I babysit for her and she cuts my hair. My DH does do the highlights in my hair though. :haha: :haha: He actually does an extremely professional job. Since he's sworn me to secrecy none of you can tell anyone!

We still use our "Trim Comb" from the '70's. Best money I ever spent. Dh hasn't been to a barber shop in 35 years.

DH takes himself and the oldest to the barbershop in town so he can talk politics with the barber I tried to do DS 1-s hair once for him when he was napping as a three year old. He looked Amish on one side and GI on the other. :haha: My dad said he is never sleeping at our house, its not safe.

I used to do DD-s hair but gave up. It-s thick with a slight wave and looks so cute when its done right.

I still give DS2 an Amish *bowl* cut but he-s long overdue for a trim.
