mrs oz here

Okay, this is a test. I think, with some help here, that I've finally figured out how to at least post links to some pics of our new place. Please be patient if it doesn't work. By the way, does anyone know how to make the actual image appear in your post?? Just curious. Well here it is!!! Thanks to all of you for all of the well wishes!

Hey Oz Talk to some local farmers about bushogging. We get it done here in Tn. for twenty dollars per hour. And that's with a large tractor and bushog. Good luck

Loved the pictures. It looks great!!! I'm so excited for you both. Let us know if you decide to post any more pics. BTW, I too need the directions on how to show a picture in a post. Hope someone will help out by explaining that. The "insert image" button doesn't seem to do the trick. (???)

Thanks,
Blue

Oh wow! The first thing I would do after it is brush hogged is invest in a tent and camp there every weekend! Then after I was sure where the house and garden will be I would start piling everything that will make good compost on that garden plot. I see you have clay soil so you can't start too soon.
Drag your grass clippings from home and all your scraps and yard waste. Your neighbors too if you can get it. Then you should have all kinds of stuff to put there after they brush hog the place. The deeper the pile the better!

It will probably be a while before you actually live there but you can start enjoying the peace and tranquility now! Don't forget to put on lots of bug spray and WATCH OUT FOR THE POISON IVY! :haha: HAVE FUN!!

Oz, marvellous looking place. Congratulations.

As for photos, what you did (posting just links) was fine. Posting the images themselves is (IMNSHO) terribly inconsiderate. Photos take bandwidth, bandwidth costs time and money (particularly for homesteader types on dial-up). Better to let people choose, as you have, whether they want to expend that time and bandwidth; rather than springing it on them unnanounced in a thread.

mrs oz here

Just got back from a trip up to NC. Met with the bushhog guy yesterday. It will be $50/hour for him to do it, and he will work an 8 hour day up there to get it done. He says it will be slow going though because of the stumps that are on the property from when it was cleared. So, do we move forward with this or do we bring in a bulldozer (also $50/hour) and start over. Oz seems to think we could use survey tape to mark off areas we don't want dozed (the few areas that have mature trees) so we can at least keep those. Just unsure on which is money better spent. We just can't wait to get going so we can start planning the layout and actually staying on the land. I'm sure we'll camp up there once we get it cleared, but we are looking into a used camper. It's all very exciting. We both feel quite sad when we have to leave from up there now; but happy that there's a place to leave!! Thanks for all of your help!!

Congrats OZ! Welcome to North Cackalacky!

Now that you have done it, you can tell me now!! My wife and I will be moving from Raleigh to Charlotte. I need to find a place down there with about ten to twenty acres.

Congrats to the both of you, are you in a rush to clear it? If not, maybe spend a few weekends there and get the feel for it over the next couple of months. Then you can maybe start tagging trees to be kept in a certain color, trees to be dozed in another color. Pick an area where you are going to put all the stumps, or would the dozer driver take them away? Lots of things to think about in the great world of being a land owner-but fun.
