Mine is a much better shot, so I would be hoping she wasn't shooting at me.

My fiancee has pretty severe fibromyalgia and generally can't move very quickly - she is smart and tough but we will be training for CCWs and getting probably a couple of handguns as soon as is plausible.

We both have lifetime CCW's. I carry every day and DSW always has a handgun handy. There is a loaded shotgun, beside the bed. And we have truck guns too. Not paranoid, just Cautious.

We're not worried about a shoot-out, we are just prepared.
Likewise, we are not worried about a house fire, despite the fact that we keep five 20# fire extinguishers in our home.

How come it is, I get the feeling that 1/2 or so of the guys at least, who claim their SOs would be a regular Bonnie and C Jane in a fight have their SOs reading these posts also? lol

Exactly.
Even in 'safe' areas bad things can happen. I'm sure no one was 'worried' about the guy walking into that school in Connecticut, but it happened.

Yep.
And when I get asked why I carry a gun when I've never 'needed' to use it, I ask them if they've ever had to use their homeowner's insurance. When they tell me 'no, i ask them if they're going to drop it, since they've never 'needed' it.

Ya know, we have guns in the house, but we haven't done a run-through of a shoot-out scenario.
And interestingly, there are no polls asking if your spouse would be a good back up with a fire extinguisher, or if s/he'd be a dangerous distraction.
For that matter, in the 5 years I've been reading this board, that's never even come up in conversation...
People like to imagine themselves large and in charge when it comes to guns but fire extinguishers don't seem to have the same sex appeal.

That's in a the most likely scenario of an active shooter, robbery attempt, gunshots in the distance, etc. If our home is being attacked, she is to get the kids in our room, barricade the door, and grab my rifle and hold position until my voice gives her the all clear with the code word.
So plan is
1: Out and about in public, she gets the kids and gets away fast.
2: At home, she gets the kids protected, arms up, and I deal with threats.

We have a simular plan we have practiced it several times.
1 She hears a unexplained sound in the night and awakens me with a ear splitting scream in the ear from six inches,
2 She then kicks me with a convulsive kick that throws me from the loft.
3 I land on the main floor in a heap ,naked, confused and bruised.
4 I stumble over the cat into the stove and turn on the light.
5 Since we dont have a cat I put the cat out and hollar up the stairs "ALL CLEAR"
6 I put the light out and go back up stairs.
7 As my head emerges above floor level She whomps me a good one.
8 I sleep the rest of the night on the floor protecting her from the evil of cats............thanks Oggie.

Either people live in extremely dangerous areas (hence the concern about how'd they'd do in a shoot-out), ~OR~
they think guns make them large and in charge, rather than merely insurance in an emergency (which is why there's a poll about how people would do in a shoot-out, rather than their fire extinguisher handling).
My apologies. I've never had a whole lot of patience for people who brag about guns. I don't have much patience for people who brag about how they do in fights, either.
My observation over the years is that there are those who talk and those who do. And those who do rarely feel the need to talk about the fact that they do.

I can see that. What I have seen is that you never know what you would do until the time comes be it a fire, intruder, medical emergency or tornado. The thing that comes to mind are the many people who gave their life in Joplin to save others. One worked at a pizza place and put the customers in the cooler and held it closed until he was sucked away. I bet no one saw him as a hero before that day. I've also seen video's of burning cars etc where guys stand by and do nothing while other strangers run to help. I just hope I'm never tested like that.

You guess correct. Have lived in Colorado and South Carolina, but have lived mostly in Maryland. We have watched over the last couple of decades how this country has moved on from the "old" ways. Crime and criminals no longer keep to certain areas but are very mobile and some think people in the country are vulnerable.
We have 1 sheriff in our town and the Volunteer Fire Company. We have fire suppression drills and fire escape drills much more then armed intruder drills.
Nonetheless we like to be as prepared for any emergency that should come up.

It's a lot easier to hit the target with a fire extinguisher than it is with a handgun. No need for special skills/training. Fire drills are still a good idea, though.
