Three days worth of food, thats what they say most sheeple have, and after that they start to freak out. Saw it with Hurricane Sandy after three days people were screaming in the streets for the help they thought should have already come, screaming they had no food, no water, no medicine. Do think most of the city people will stay put waiting, but not all. The more dangerous and ambitious will go looking for supplies, those will be the ones we'll have to worry about. We're living debt free right now, prepping the best we can. Raise rabbits and chickens, don't have pasture can't do grazers. We hunt, store what we can. Have lived within our means for years. We are well prepared for short term disasters, not so much long term, thats much more difficult. Have some good folks with like minds we could band up with, dependable tough folks, somes family somes not. We all have skills we can offer to each other. Thats something many folks overlook, you need other people in such situations, you can't do it all yourself. Just have to hope for the best and then do the best we can.

You can have warehouses of food, water, weapons, silver, and gold.
If you are not able to defend your belongings and family you will soon have none.

If you are prepared mentally and physically you will be able to take the things you need from those who are not prepared.
As bad as that sounds, yes sir, I agree 100%

I am not going to say it will never happen. Then again there are so many things that could happen to send the country into a death spiral, who could predict?

We are just doing all we can for any eventuality. But the one thing that gets more and more air time these days is the fact that the Yellowstone Caldera is long over due.

Hopefully nothing ever happens, but just in case, I dont plan to be hungry in 3 days.

LOL

I understand "city think", perfectly. Criminal (and potential ones) are lazy, not stupid (at least most of them).

A rash of home invasion and bomb threat type robberies has hit financial institutions, (particularly in the south and southeast), with activity on the increase by gangs, copycats, youth gangs and others during the past two years-escalating sharply in the past six months.
Quote:
Victims are usually female branch managers who are followed (stalked), sometimes for weeks, in a target selection that aims for the most vulnerable family or house to execute the home invasion evening entry. Husbands have been tied to beds with bomb devices attached to their bodies. The "bombs" in each case so far have turned out to be phony.

Home invasion, bomb construction, instructions on how to burglarize an ATM-all are well published on the Internet, shown in movies, and described in detail in the newspaper and on TV. We have to learn how to protect ourselves.
It does not take a rocket scientist, to get guns, steal a truck and drive 100 miles - to the middle of nowhere, to plan a home invasion robbery.

Someone could easily be kidnapped away from home and forced to take the robbers to their booty.

If living in the middle of nowhere, is the place to be after "Armageddon", then that is where everyone will be.

Rest well tonight.

If you read all the reports about the natural disasters most recently happening, there were very few reports of folks committing mahem, mostly dumpster diving, and when that does happen? They pillage inside and local, exhausting resources before leaving. Then, as others have posted, most of who would endeavor to look outside of the cities, won't be prepared for survival. There will be very few who will be. How many of them will both fit and prepared well for survival.

What happens in your local community will be of most concern. The more cohesive that community is, the better in all catastrophes everything will be.

Since I am stuck in the burbs they are my role model. I went to see them this past year. Very nice folks and what an awesome thing they are doing.

Lorichristie, the reason I would prefer a diesel generator is so i can keep a bulk tank diesel and u!se it for the generator, and the tractor. That would make sure the fuel stays fresh.
