I put one on the side of my barn and during the research phase, I saw this. It called a pit greenhouse.

Pit Greenhouse

I purchased this book from amazon. I live on flat land and have zero equipment so I would have needed to hire someone to dig it out and build up he other side.

The Earth Sheltered Solar Greenhouse Book:Amazon:Books

For those who don't like clicking on sites listed by newbees....:-)

The first one I found on a search using the term pit greenhouse and the second is an amazon book earth sheltered solar greenhouse.

These look like they would be fantastic, if you have the equipment and the hilly land to do it.

Good luck

I like the looks and performance of a pit greenhouse! My only slope is facing north though. All greenhouses are solar greenhouses unless you're using only artificial lights.

"Solar Greenhouse" is often used to describe a GH that does not need supplementary heat in the winter. Typically have insulated north, east, and west walls and double glazing on the south. But, I agree, not a very logical term.
