Tinknal, I understand what you're saying. Nothing more satisfying than a good saw with sawdust flying.
I got an MS361 a few years ago, and as my son said after trying it, "Why didn't we get this years ago?"
I guess you just forget what you're missing.
I no longer do alot of cutting, but if you consider several years with a saw, the extra money for a good one averages out to not much per use, and its alot more enjoyable and easier as you get older. Like when I took out a couple stumps last week that flared out to 5 feet wide below ground.
It's pretty bad when I spend half on a saw that I do for a car. But then cars are pretty useless.

I was about to say the same thing Sawmill Jim ... from my experience some of the parts are similar and some are different mainly because the case design is slightly different I believe.
I'm a Stihl guy through and through (sold them, worked on them, went to "Stihl School"), but my advice is always to get the biggest saw you can afford (within reason of course) and to purchase it from a dealer that you respect with a repair shop you respect.

It must be new chainsaw week. I brought home a Husky 550XP with 3/8 bar and chain. It only cut 7 trees down Friday. About a cord and 1/2.... love it!
Congrats on your new saw! No dealers up here.

Jonsered vs Husky? Besides the color, Jonsereds are ONLY sold by dealers who also provide service. Husky's can be sold at big box stores.
Oh yah, one other thing. Jonsereds are owned by a better class of people.....

Husky does NOT own Jonsereds. Electrolux owns BOTH companies.
And its true the smaller "homeowner type" Husqvarna chainsaws are sold at the big box stores. Professional Husqvarna chainsaws are sold only at a Husky dealership.
Husky and Jonsereds use the SAME engines. They're almost the same chainsaw other than a few minor changes.
Whats happened over the years is this. Logging has changed dramatically over the last 2 decades. Chain saw sales are a fraction of what they were in the past. Mechanical processors have essentially replaced chain saws.
As a result, the somewhat small chain saw shop that specialized in chain saws had to either expand its offerings.....or go out of business. Many shops expanded into lawn mowers, outboard motors, snowblowers, woodsplitters, generators and basically do ALL types of small engine repairs.
Many retired from the business. And many hardware stores now sell/service chain saws. My experience has been that hardware stores are generally the worst places to buy chainsaws or have any service work performed.
I am a professional logger. I see almost no difference between Husky & Jonsereds as they are nearly identical. Stihls tend to be slightly higher priced. I see all three as giving about the same longevity and maintenance requirements. I run Husqvarnas but simply because there remains a good sales/repair facility nearby. I would have no problem using any of these three.
It comes down to this. Where can one find a good sales/repair facility?

DH is in need of a new chainsaw and his birthday is coming up in June. He has a Stihl that he has had for many years and although he doesnt think it needs replacing it is always something on it that he has to work on whenever we need it. I cant count the times he has had it in the shop...but he still loves it.
I just got an email from Tractor Supply that they are now carrying the Jonsered. I would like to get him one, but how would I know what he needs..
He use to use it all the time when we had our fence company, but now it is just doing things around the farm or adding new fence to our place. Since we use the cedar off our place for posts he would need it then. Occasionally cutting wood for his wood stove in his man cave. We dont heat with wood in the house so it is not like he would be using it to cut cords of wood...but later down the road you never know that might change.
So what would anyone recommend? TIA

I would recommend a gift certificate to Tractor Supply and let him pick the saw that he believes he needs.

I agree. A man and his saw. It's a personal partnership thing.

I just read that Tractor Supply ad. I bought a beater car last month for only a hundred more than the top of the line one!

I was looking at the Jonsereds at Tractor Supply and my first thought was that the 2240 looked just like my Husky 435. Now I know why! I don't use mine every day, but it has been a great little saw.
