The coyote will be back unless you wounded it badly. There will be more than one also but not all of them develop into livestock killers. I would keep a bigger rifle (.223) handy and watch carefully especially early in the am and late in the pm. All safety precautions apply of course. TTT

We're using a silenced .308. But crapola, they're coming so close that DH could probably use his concealed carry pistol!

30 to 100 feet away and you missed. You need to do more target practice.

.22 lr with hollowpoints will kill a dog sized varmint, provided you hit it. btdt

You could always invest in a coyote trap. Once trapped they're easy to shoot.
