I don't believe it because the sun is not good for sunbathing at this time of year, and he says at 4am "he is still out there" Also the whole idea of what he saw through the scope.....

No. I've been going along with it just for grins.
BTW, if anyone wants to gaze at me while I sunbathe, realize you may want to stick needles in your eyes afterwards!

I don't know if I believe the story or not, I just wanted the chance to rant about morons who use rifle scopes in place of binoculars. There are a lot of people who do that and all I can ever think, is "Your daddy should whip your butt for being so STUPID!!" :

It's OK, really. You see people doing that on TV all the time!

Perverts like this start out as peeping toms, and generally escalate into something much more serious. Peeping toms are almost all ileagle in any form. Some states may call it stalking. But believe this, it is looked into by law enforcemt agency's. They are usually put on what we call "sex offender" lists and that is where they should be.

thanks for the replys
wow , thanks for the replys , rather than multi-quote everyone , let me just say that in my original post , I said my dog had been barking at that ridge all summer long , but she only did that when my wife was out working on her tan on the weekends. , during the week , she never paid any attention to that ridge . I just didn't make the connection that maybe something might be amiss until recently . in any event , the weather is getting colder now , but here in wnc , just yesterday , it was plenty sunny enough to get some sun , been cloudy today , but like I said , we'll have days hot & sunny enough for a tan all the way into the first part of Dec , won't have many of them , but we'll prolly have a few of them , but for the most part , sun-bathing weather is mostly over.
I didn't tell my wife about it , maybe I should have , didn't . it would have scared her , and like I said , it was the first time I caught the guy , so I've got a few months to figure out what I'm gonna do .
someone said it wasn't a good idea to put the scope on someone , I agree 100% , but I didn't know what I was looking for ,I was thinking maybe a critter , and the scope on my rifle is a lot more powerful than my binocs . btw , although I keep my shotguns loaded , my rifles are always un-loaded .

One time, a long time ago, my ex was out hunting. He was sitting on a stump out in the open resting and watching. Suddenly, he got that feeling that he was being watched. He slowly and casually picked up his binoculars and looked around. Lo and behold, there was a man looked at him through a scope. He hit the ground then slowly went looking. Never found the bonehead. He said that it was the creepiest feeling.

well , homebody , I actually didn't use the f word , in the context of its proper spelling , but I sure did leave out one letter in that post , same word , same meaning , so I'm guilty as charged , and , I was infracted for it , that also is true.
I went to that thread , and apologised to everyone on that thread for my post . I explained that I was counting on the site-filters to blank out the " _u__" , it didn't happen , so , again , I apologise .

You don't really have months to figure it out.
Unless he is psychic, he is watching your house enough to know when she is in a bathing suit.
He watches often.
He probably watches her hang clothes, weed the garden, carry in groceries.
How else could he know that she was sunbathing?
He knows when you are home and when you are not.
You need to get someone on this.
Too nasty, creepy, weird.
And you HAVE TO tell her.
I would be totally wigged out if my husband knew something like that and didn't warn me.
I would be furious.
It isn't your place to decide what she knows and when she knows it.
Knowledge is like the air you breathe.
And you should let the cops know.
They just need a head's up.
And yeah.. it is sunbathing weather. DH got a bit of a burn yesterday, we were both sweating half to death and today too. I was working out in the sun and was darned hot. But much cooler after tomorrow. The highs will be what the lows were and we will have to have a fire in the mornings!!

To the question of weather, I don't live in NC, but here in Kansas it was sunbathing weather on Tuesday. Something like 88, IIRC. I was in a tank top, anyway.
'Course today the kids are out trying to sled in the snow we've gotten for the past two days.

You Must tell your wife Now. I don't need to go into personal stories, it's up to your Wife if she decides to be "worried". Good Grief man, there are things worse than being scared-one is dead, the other is raped. You know something, and it's her right to have that info from her Husband.

well , 7th Swan , If I tell her , she'll never again feel safe to sun-bathe on her own porch again . . .
If I don't tell her , and something happens , I'll never be able to forgive myself.
I had a powerful Leopold scope on this guy , he didn't have a rifle , or I'd have seen it .
so what I did was to ask my wife for a bit of target practice today , she shot her .380 Imez , and I shot my Glock .40 , , but I made sure that a few rounds from my Glock went towards that ridge , , , oops , , , not too close , but close enough , he wasn't there , my dog never barked , but all the racket of the gun-fire maybe sent a message ...
what I'm gonna do is to set-up a trap/ skeet range , and send the discs toward that ridge next year , only instead of shooting low-brass , I'll be shooting 3" 0 buckshot , at 200 yards , it'll be like a lead rain on his position . .
even an idiot would get the message , I'm hoping that will solve the problem .
Out here , in the very rural area I'm in , well , the Law would just as soon I handled it my-self , as long as nobody gets hurt , they're ok with my skeet shoot , as long as I mark it properly as a danger zone , which I have already done.

It doesn't matter what the heck you were looking for, a rifles scope ain't a substitute for binoculars. And, a heckuvalot of people have been shot and killed with "unloaded" rifles.
It doesn't make any sense to me that you couldn't see this guy with your binoculars so you had to use the scope on your rifle, but at the same time he was able to see your wife sunbathing with a set of presumably pretty powerful binoculars that he was holding with one hand.
And, the ridge is isolated enough that you can blast away at it with a shotgun without worrying about hitting any nearby neighbors, but he is able to suddenly appear whenever your wife decides to sunbathe. How would he know what she was doing unless he was up there all the time? Wouldn't the dog be barking all the time if that was the case?
I don't believe any part of this story.
