Our NEW wood stove is sitting in the garage. We're getting it installed in a week or so. I cannot wait till we can light our first fire!

Might light mine today. It's overcast and rainy so we won't have the passive solar to help.

No fires here. We shut the windows just after the hottest part of the day and put on sweat clothes at night. Then we climb into bed with an electric blanket. I love sleeping under warm covers in a cool room.

We've heated with wood for 22 years, and I know it'll eventually get to where I have to maintain a fire all the time, so I put off the first one as long as I can!

I'm cutting wood, and wore out my 1998 Husqvarna Rancher 50. It just heated up and quit on me. Had to go out and do a comparo on Husky vs. Stihl, and found Husky had cheapened up too much for my liking. The purge bulb is a made-to-fail item that's not on the older saws, and the controls are more complicated, not as easy or sturdy as the Stihl, wehich gets the start and stop function done with one slider knob.

So after a bit of wrangling I bought the Stihl MS290 Farm Boss this time. If it lasts another 14 years of hard use like the ol Husky did, I'll be happy.

The problem with my Husky is that the ring froze up. The saw is in such good shape, I may still tear it down and put some money into making it run again. But right now I have oak to cut and it won't wait, and trees to trim! Once we get to mud season here, time will have run out!

We've had a few cool nights, probably down to 40, but thanks to all the sunshine, we're still using a little AC during the day. Soon though...

Nope..

It was in the mid to upper 30's this morning. But has warmed up since then to the low 70's. So we didn't bother starting a fire. Oh and we're in southern PA

First Fire Literally.

This morning the temps were in the high 40s low 50s, not really cold but we finally got the new EPA stove hooked in yesterday and decided today was the day for the big event. This is our first EPA stove so we were a little nervous about how fast it would start to put out heat. No problem. Within 10 minutes it was happily chugging along.

Wood....we need more wood!

Its not cold enough here really yet, but I just finished installing a new chimney and EPA stove. I've had a few fires just to enjoy the fruits of my labor. It requires opening a window to keep cool. 50 at night 90 today is forecast.

I have fired the wood stove 4 or 5 evenings just before bed because the nights were getting below 30 degrees. Most of the time it was out the following morning. The garden has frozen so it's done except for harvesting root crops.

Now we have a warm spell. It hit about 80 this afternnoon and I turned the AC on.

There is still a confused Humming bird comming to the feeder and the sandhill cranes are still in the neighbor's swamp. The leaves have almost all turned but not many have fallen. Looks like a beautiful fall.

We fired ours up last week, we had temps around 30 a couple nights. Weatherman said we had the coldest spot in the country that night, brrr. Stove did just what it was suppose to, it warmed everything up just nice. I am not ready for winter yet myself, but it will come, ready or not. > Thanks Marc
