I'm predicting a cold, snowy winter, only because last winter was not a winter. I think, at least here in the NYC area, the weather is very cyclical, like every other year type of cycle.

I hope so. I would love to have a cozy, snowy winter.

I wish we were feeling fall in the air. Right now it's 103 outside. I'm also hoping for a very cold winter to kill off bugs.

I'm hoping for a very long, cold winter. I am an HVAC service tech, and my income is very much linked to the weather. Last winter hurt us, it was too mild. This hot summer has helped quite a bit.

It probably won't snow at all. I just bought 3 garden tractors with front blades, so I hope it snows soon so I can try them out.

I have heard nothing so far but yesterday, July 31, the trees right outside my kitchen window and up on the mountain side had some yellow leaves. Never happened this early before. Everything is yellow or orange by the first week in September and the trees are normally bare by the first week of October but this was surprising.

Bring it on! I dream about snow and frost. I am sick of hot weather. It is not so hot here this week but I still hate hot weather. Frost will be welcome!

I'm in Missouri we had such a mild winter last year, and such a hot dry summer this year I certainly hope we have a very snowy, cold winter! I haven't heard any predictions though on what it could be like. The trees here are letting their leaves go, and as much as I want to think it's a sign of fall I'm assuming it is just from the heat and drought.

Winters have been too mild here the last few years. Last winter the ground never froze here! That meant there was no snow to melt into the ground and help bring up the water table. There was no frost for the ground to heave up in the Spring and soften the land for planting so the ground was rock hard. Spring was a month or more early and too warm. Rains have been sparse. Agriculture is suffering except where farmers were able to irrigate. The result is smaller and less produce and esculating prices except at the Farmer's Markets where food is reasonable. Those selling at local market themselves don't pay themselves a wage is why food is cheaper there.
I predict another warm winter here but am hoping for freezing weather and lots of snow! The old people used to say ;"If the lakes didn't rise before freeze-up the next year there would be a drought." Last year the water in the lakes never rose and the lakes never froze and this was a drought year for much of Eastern Canada and the Maritime provinces.

Yup, tons of acorns. Dang tree rats aren't doing a very good job of picking them up either.

What part of CT are you in? Lisbon here.

That's another thing Dave1745...we have our firewood cut, split & stacked for this winter and almost have next winters wood done??? We have NEVER been done with our firewood...usually end up cutting during the winter too...something is in the air!

^that^

My guarantee to all of Central MO that it will be cold and snowy....we've not been able to get out to the 'stead and get any wood chopped. All that we have right now is about a half a rick for our main heat source. It would be our luck.

Maybe not, as we're using our water shares and irrigating our mature trees heavily this year. And they're still losing leaves a month early according to the neighbor. In fact I need to get back out there this morning and bag some more up.

Last winter I didn't even get to use this baby...or my front loader bucket...or even so much as the back blade. The Great Lakes are very warm this year so if it gets cold this winter at least it's lots of lake effect!

I'm expecting a rough winter this year. Last year, we barely shoveled anything. We live in a major snow belt so that was pretty odd. I don't expect to get that lucky again! The starlings and sparrows are acting a bit odd and seem to gorging themselves. Our pet turtle is showing no signs of slowing down his eating. Usually he starts to slow down to get into winter mode. (I haven't figured out if it means that he doesn't expect winter to come or if he thinks he will need way more nourishment to get him through it!)

We are stocking up on food and loading up on firewood. We'll be ready for whatever comes our way!

As much as I enjoyed the mild winter last year, it made for one heck of a following summer and we can't afford harvests like this every year. We also need the snow to counteract how dry it's been. So... I don't have a prediction, but I suppose I'm hoping for a snowy one. I could do without the weeks of negative temps. Low 30s, high 20s and snow would be okay.
