It's not necessary to run the motor wide open. For most areas I can run half-throttle saving gas and line. Line breaks off faster at high RPMs.

Oh do I agree with that.
For MOST just grass trimming, in and around things, under fences etc. that is NOT grown up very much I do I would say 90% of my trimming under IDLE only, hardly ever having to rev the motor up, sure you get in some strong tough cutting but like I say under normal trimming around trees, around walks, around and nuder fence lines is you keep it up before it gets really out of control a Idle is fast enough.~! Or at the very least slightly above idle. But yes fore tough stuff like I trim some small tree limbs off I rev it up but like I say 90% of the trimming down around here is at idle speed only.
Note: This idle speed is when using the weed eater, Not the Brush cutter which is a different animal all together.,

It's amazing how much weed stems they throw at you. I wear a face shield.

I think it's just a basic Bolens? Dolens? Something like that. It's yellow.

Bolens with the yellow label is one of the many MTD/Ryobi knockoffs that are sold under the name of whatever mfg tha MTD bought up......the engines are all the same, but the cases and starting mechanisms are slightly different. The life of those units is about two years under heavy use, so be gentle with it. Personally, I had trouble with a $70 MTD unit starter ratchet(plastic) almost out of the box........gave it away at the roadside and bought a Husqvarna....

Yeah, when we got this one we only had almost one acre in a neighborhood. I figure once it wears out we will need to get a heavy duty one for what we have now. Til then I will just make do.
