More succcess with dog proof trap

I had a problem with racoons getting into the chicken house (which I thought was proof). Had some success with the cage type traps others have shown, but much better success with a Duke Dog Proof trap. It won't catch cats or dogs, but trapped 9 raccoons in 7 nights. The coons reach in to get the mini marshmallows and are trapped. So the score is raccoons got 4 chickens, I got 9 racoons...I am ahead on points! Have not seen a raccoon on the infrared game trail camera now in 6 nights.

I don't like to eat those either

I've tried a few times and I never liked it. Every time someone said it's because it was killed/butchered/cooked wrong and they knew how do do it right and I would love it...nope

Wish I did, I'd love to fill the freezer for essentially free, but it just tastes icky to me.

Same with reindeer, rabbit, pheasant..all icky, so I think my chances of liking coon is about zero.

Wow, You have a problem. Even Porcupine tastes great if you know how to cook them.

It's probably best to take him into the city to let him go.

must be suburban or city for that?

I'm urban with plenty of feed they don't all eat garbage? If at all.

Nor even live stock...

Don't even try catfish they are bottom feeders?

LOL

of coarse if a Chinese citizen tried to sway me to the virtues of dog, cat, and rat I'd be skeptical also....

though I suppose I might be missing out?

cause most of the stuff discussed is pretty good!

I'm with Tiempo on the venison thing. I've been told the exact same thing and I've even cooked it myself. Smelled great but not even the dog would eat it.

I won't eat it either. Threw a carcass to our pigs one time, they all started to gag and wouldn't touch it. If I pig won't eat something-neither will I. I'll go dig up some roots or something.

I like to buy our meat from the supermarket where it comes all fresh and safe to eat and always tastes delicious.

Looks like you got it.
What you had is a coon that learned to beat the trap so it would set, then roll it over and get the goods.
I was going to suggest building a wooden box to put over it so it can't hit the wire arms to trip the trap. Then put it in a corner and weigh it down.
You can also put wire snares around the box so you have a double barrel approach.

We're pretty country, just outside a village pop.1200, about 8 houses on our stretch of road..They will tear into and scatter any unsecured trash and get into a lot of coops.

I have friend who lost 40 chickens and turkeys close by

Aside from our home raised chicken, I get a lot of small farm raised beef, pork and turkey from clients in trade for hoof care.

Neither of us care much for the taste of game.

I like the backstrap of venison, (marinated and grilled) and I love elk stew (so much better than beef stew) but other than that, I'm not much into game either. We buy free range organic chickens from some Hutterites, grass-fed beef from a local rancher, and pork from 4Hers at the county fair.

I grew up on it and don't care if I ever see deer meat again. Coon is fine with gravy master...

Can't remember the last time I ate red meat. Never met a bean I didn't like.

Venison chili might be your ticket.

CF,

I think the quote is that " I buy my meat from the supermarket. It comes wrapped in plastic and no animals were harmed in it's production".
