Yes, Uncle Will -- that's canola in the fields. The big leaves shading my porch screen is English Ivy

Very nice pics and also a very nice place. Does the north wind howl accross the prairie in the winter? Your snow probably ends up in Nebraska. I think ours goes to Kansas.

All of your photographs are stunning! My personal fave is the pigs though!

Nice! What's that growing around the hog waller?

Beautiful photos, Tracey.

I miss canola. There was lots of it up north but none around here. My house has a similar porch. You've inspired me to stop using mine as a feed room and go sit out there instead.

Made me clamp up when I saw it. Guess it is a genetic thing I blame on my mother.

That's Canada Thistle growing in and around the pig's wallow. I can't get in there to get at it and cut it down. The pigs like to lay under it, too; it's shady, I suppose. Once it starts blooming, though, I'm going to have to do something, or I'll have a gazillion seeds of the darned stuff floating everywhere. The new pig pen will be ready in a week or two, so I'll move them all over there, and dig it out, or burn it back.

Wind mostly comes from the NW, so it's mighty cold most days. The barnyard is sheltered by the shelterbelt and the barn, so it's not too bad there, but the house is far enough away from them that it picks up momentum again by the time it hits the dooryard. We either get hardly any snow at all, or several feet, there doesn't seem to be an "in between". I will say, though, that when we get an overnight blizzard with the wind whipping all night long, the drifts are like concrete, and near impossible to clear. I have a deal with the local road crew to clear my drive when they come through to clear the road after one of those storms.

The porch faces south, so it's usable most days except the coldest of the winter.

Yeah, the pigs have a mire, the dog a huge field to play in, and the humans a great porch to sit on during lazy (or not so lazy) Summer days. Thanks for sharing the pics.
