I once drove 21 hours and then slept the next day with a freezer in a U-Haul truck. Freezer was unplugged for at least 48 hours and everything was fine.

Oh...it was August in the South too.

I would not do the power inverter, need a whole lot of alternator for that.
Besides the modified sine wave is hard on motors.
May be setting up for failure later.

Fill it full and at the lowest setting for a couple days, they do have thermal blankets you could cover it with.

I would also check out the route for dry ice availability.

Would assume you would be best waiting till night to leave.

Can you drive in shifts? If you can travel at expressway speeds little over a full day to get there. Leaving well it was cool would buy you a bit of time.

I would only open it to check at the 12 hour mark or last chance for dry Ice.

Dry isn't hard to get. Every grocery store has it. You may just have to ask.........

This is how I moved from Corpus Christi, TX to Vernal, UT. I put a bunch of dry ice in the freezer. When I got here, the dry ice was still pretty much in tact. This was spring time and not quite as hot but I'd still feel good about doing it in the heat. I WOULDN'T use the frozer water jugs or regular ice. Moisture is the enemy.

thanks for all the help!

got everything packed up and we are leaving out at about 2 in the morning, filled the freezer full of dry ice about an hour ago and fixin' to hit the hay in prep for the early wake up....one more thing came to mind:

do you have to worry about the gas from the dry ice? Apparently ya ain't supposed to put dry ice in an airtight container...we were gonna strap the lid closed, is this a bad idea?

thanks again, you people are awesome!
