Wonder if the big fake owl would deter squirrels? Or some kind of scarecrow. But would probably have to change it around regularly as they can be cheeky and bold.

Personally, I would rather see someone shoot them and use the meat as just poisen them and let them go to "waste". Sounds like they should be plump and well fed. It's been a long time since I had squirrel, but as I remember it was "chicken fried" and delicious.

Large Victor Rat traps that you can nail to the side of a tree and bait with peanut butter are good.

Set up several along one side of the tree. When one squirrel gets snapped, the others see him on the side of the tree and come to see what's so interesting or to play.

Squirrelinator

It works! I *had* a terrific ground squirrel problem. They were eating more of my chicken feed than my chickens were. So far, I've caught 20 squirrels.

This isn't for the faint of heart but last year when we had a huge skunk problem & by skunk I mean urban "have no fear walk right up to you" skunks, a neighbor put out poison.
LSS skunks lived but a few squirrels didn't one of which died on the roof of my garage which is right next to my peach trees. For that week until we located & removed the carcass not one squirrel could be seen. Within hours of the wake they were back in force. My plan this year is to snag a few squirrel tails to dangle on the upper most branches of our peach trees ... well @ least until I can't take the smell any longer.
