Seems that people that build their own homes say," I built a house up north.", but those that have a house built for them by a contractor say, " I built a house up north." Kind of confusing.
When I say "I built our house for around 16 bucks a square foot" I am referring to my total building costs.... materials and labor combined. I did a lot of the work myself, but also hired quite a bit of help. I did not hire a contractor. I designed the house, and took a hands on approach to all of the work with the exception of the roofing. I dont do well in high places so hired a "professional" to do the roof who managed to "build in" a couple of leaks so I had to get up there and rework a couple of places anyway. I simply cringe at most of the prices I am hearing here. I cannot imagine spending that kind of money for a dry place to hang my hat!
