I also think we just need to agree to disagree. Real Puff Adders may be native to Africa, but if something is called by another name by enough of the population, it becomes a common name. I mean, we technically don't have cantaloupes commercially available in the US, they're all muskmelons...

This is how new words are invented, in fact. When a term catches on, and reaches a certain level of common use, it's then added to dictionaries.
