He left clean.
That's good to know! Thanks! I switched from Frontline to Advantix II over the winter on Sam, our black lab. He just finished 2 rounds of doxycycline antibiotic for a possible tick-borne disease. I had posted in the Pet forum about that a few weeks ago. I never found a tick on him but he had all the signs and symptoms of a tick disease. He is doing much better now. I treated him last night with Advantix II and pulled 4 small ticks off him this morning.

Saw my first tick of the season today. Our ground never froze so it will be a bad year for bugs.

Guineas? Um ... no! We've had guineas for 10 years. They're great as alarms when someone comes on the property, a hawk flying, or if the wind changed direction or a leaf fell off a tree or they saw their shadow ....

My chickens are much better in controlling the tick situation than the guineas.

Yep...hubby decided last night it's time to treat the cats and dogs. We've been finding a tick here and there on the pets all winter...they're definitely getting more plentiful now!

I hate and despise ticks, having been infected with Lyme Disease. It is definitely going to be a LONG summer.

I had one in my hair the other night after we had gone fishing in an out of the way area and I scrubbed my head a LOT that night!

DH had tick fever the summer before I started dating him and his fever was so high it's a wonder he's still alive. He said it reached 106 on the thermometer!

When DD10 was 2 she was going to a babysitter who lived in the sticks. I picked her up one day and she had over 200(yes, I counted) seed ticks on her. The babysitter felt terrible, she must have gotten in a nest. Anyway, 2 months later DD10 had her first febrile seizure. I've always thought there had to be a connection there because she had never had one before-or since!

It's funny you should mention that as DH and I discussed the same thing last summer.
We finally decided that it probably wouldn't as we bathe too often and don't have enough hair.
We thought for a long time.

Then decided it probably wasn't worth it.

Yeah, ticks are pretty bad here, esp this year. They never really quit over the winter and are coming out in force now. I really hate broadcast chemicals, they make me sick, but we're treating the yard and a good part of the property.

Also, count me in as a guinea hater. I'm hoping the bantam games cheeping in the brooder next to me do a good job. We're actually trying to train them, we check the dogs and any we find get dropped in the brooder. I can't wait for that order of Frontline to come!

Yikes, that is horrible...

I got my first tick when there was snow on the ground.... not a good start to the year.

For my Cats, I use either Revolution or Advantage Multi. Horses, goats and sheep, either keep them sprayed with premectrinII or use Equi- Spot.

For humans, we are getting chickens, they are great at getting rid of bugs and we are going to need all the help we can get.
I have around the house fenced, so they will be safe from ground predators there and in the horse pasture.

Is great the DE worked, will have to try that in the area's where the chickens can't go.

Our chickens DESTROYED the tick population we had. 2 years ago, I winced when walking through ankle high grass. Forget even sitting down on a rock or whatever. Those days are now over as my chickens roam over a 2-3 acre area and eat every one they can find. Now if I could only get rid of all the poison ivy, I would be set!

You need goats to take care of the poison ivy. It's like candy to them. I'm glad your chickens got rid of your ticks! Mine work at it but can't keep up with it.
