I can think of several legitimate reasons why a man or woman of this age can end up homeless and carless. These are all reasons that are out of their control, too.
That being said, there are ways out of just about every problem, and the parents will not live forever. Sounds like the parents of both of them have decided that it is time for these folks to stretch their abilities, some. Most of us middle aged folks have known hard times, and have done things that we didn't think that we COULD do, just because we had to.
Hard times can teach a person a great deal. One day the NEXT generation will not be able to figure out how to do something, and they will turn to their parents for guidance. How will you be able to give good advice to your children and nieces and nephews if you haven't solved any hard problems?
Ted, your Father WANTS you to succeed, but he will not help you because he wants you to be strong enough and capable enough to guide the next generation of his family. He wants you to be a person that others can lean on.
You have asked for advice and you have gotten many possible solutions. Pick a solution-any solution- and GO for it! If that one doesn't work for you, try another or come up with a solution on your own. Solving this eill teach you more about problem-solving than you can imagine.
Nobody enjoys hard times, but that is how most of us learn about how to deal with lifes problems.
