What was the habitat in which you saw this animal? Was it near water? The Fisher I saw was near a creek.

That's interesting to know, too. I noticed we've all seen creatures out of their conventional habitat where eyewitnesses dispute what the Fish and game people will say, so I felt comfortable asking people here instead.
I'm on the other side of state line from you and yes, it was within a few yards of a creek I just passed. In that same creek i've seen muskrat, otter and beaver on different occasions. It's out in the country aways, but a little too close to the road and farms for those creatures to stay there for very long.
The few muskrats usually get run over, and whether the beaver got hit or taken out by a local farmer. I'm not sure. I remember a local farmer complaining about the beaver skinning his apple trees and not long after, he was gone..........
The otters seem to be just passing through. They were cute, but rare sight.
My wife had reminded me of her sister up North describing a fisher cat when she visited. I had never heard of them either. I wish i'd gotten a look at the head to be more certain.
Hopefully this weasel relative was just passing through, because i don't think the locals here will put up with him if he decides on hitting the poultry buffets!
