Putting Paneling Over Stone Basement Walls a Good Idea?

We used to live in a house with paneling on the face of cement walls. We had the most awful problem with spiders living the the air space between the walls.

Regular spiders, I could have handled. These were black widows. They had to go. So did the paneling.
