You are allowed 1 (one) week only of dreaming and relaxing then it's back to work!

Congratulations, and don't forget to fill out all the change of address forms---otherwise you won't get any seed catalogs.

Yes, please do take photos. I did not and I know my memory of those days will fade and that will be sad.

Ok, sorry it has been so long since I have been on here. We has many things to get done to make the home livable, or at least comfortably livable. I will try and add a photo, I have never done it before. Thanks to all for your prayers, and well wishes.

In photobucket, when you run the mouse over the image, a box should pop up. The bottom line in the little box is the "image" code. Click on image, it will copy the code, then paste it into your post.

OK, now I need help

I have moved to the Lebanon MO area, and need help with things like where is the best place to buy feed, and fencing supplies. I am looking to buy 3-5 sows, or gilts. I am also wanting to buy cattle. Would prefer angus, that are grass fed. would like to find 3rd period, or cow calf pairs. Any help you can give would be appreciated. I am already checking Craigslist.

thestartupman, reading your post as well as all the responses has me tearing up. If I had doubts, they are gone now.

I am 57 with a young child at home. My adult son and his wife will be homesteading with us, we are hoping for at least 35 acres in Ky. Like you, we have been studying, planning, etc. But in reality, we can plan all we want, eventually we are just going to have to "jump in with both feet". This thread has made me feel as if we are on our way!

I would like to ask about Mo. I see on unitedcountry.com that land in Mo. appears to be much cheaper than Ky. My brother says Mo is flat, not the rolling hills like Ky. May I ask why you prefer Mo?

Price has a lot to do with why I am in MO. Mo, has lots of rolling areas. I have 80 acres here, and it has some fairly flat fields, but has plenty of valleys in it. I like the freedom that mo allows. No building permits needed, or building code. It also puts me within 8-9 hours drive from most of our family, which isn't too bad. So far, I just plain love it here.

Big congrats! my family and I are still in the planning, dreaming, earning stage and it is just about killing us the wait! I have been doing a lot of reading and researching about the homesteading lifestyle because it is something we have never done before. Although I am not a city girl by any stretch I was always raised in a smallish town with no livestock and very little gardening experience. Since having children, one is 4.5 and the other is just barely 1, I have really felt the need to get out of town and onto my own little plot. The itch to rush is terrible but my hubby and I realize the importance of planning and this forum is really a reality check for the stuff that we don't know! But a great resource for learning! God bless you on your new farm and I hope you have tons of great experiences.

Don't wait too long. The time is never perfect to take the leap. If you keep waiting for it to be perfect it will never come.

Congratulations! Nothing better than finding your own little piece of the world to call heaven.

Dh & I moved to our property about 9 years ago this month. We still look around while outside with the critters or out the windows in amazement at what we have & how lucky we are!
