I run a diesel Jetta as well and have been pulled over by the diesel cops to test my gas for the red stuff. All they did was put a clear tube into my tank and pull out some fuel to see the color. No Litmus test. I get 51.7 miles per gallon over the last 40,000 miles. I have a 160 mile per day round trip commute. I have considered bioD but do not currently have the space. The beads look interesting, has anyone ever tried or heard of anyone who has.

Regards, SonnyJim

I don't like to pay taxes either, but this is a ROAD USE TAX. if we are to have decent roads there has to be funds to pay for them. I think the RUT is one of the more fair (if there is such a thing) taxes, the more an individual drives and uses the roads the more fuel they must purchase and pay taxes in proportion to their use of the roads.
"Individuals" as the term is defined in Black's Law Dictionary....were never intended to pay for the highways used for commercial purposes. Said highways--and there is near-infinite caselaw to back this--were intended primarily for private use, to be paid for by the license fees of those so licensed by the State for commercial transport, as well as all other forms of taxation that the privilege of commerce brings upon those engaged in "traffic". Traffic is another word dealt with in Black's. Traffic is, paraphrased, "that which destroys the road in its pusuit of gain by commerce upon the highways". Traffic never meant, and does not mean, private use of the road by private individuals. The crux is that the State has invited every 16-year-old in the country to become a commercial "driver", and thus liable for all taxes, regulations, statutes and bylaws concernin "traffic". The common man, in his private automobile, horse, carraige or on foot, was never intended to be regulable by statutory law. Only the common law was to apply. Common law states simply that, you are free until you damage another, at which point your peers of 12 will see to it that you recompense him.

That said, make your fuel and use it where you are not violating your pre-existing agreements with the State.

Well, the fact of the matter is that private individuals make a whole lot of use of the roads, and I for one do not begrudge the taxes used for their upkeep -- mind you, I have seen the road crews WASTING my hard earned dollars with 2 guys at least looking like they're working and 5 guys having coffee and cigarette breaks ALL DAY for weeks on end...I object to that kind of road work, but that's a matter of the county enforcing work standards.

As I pointed out a few posts back, its not what gets spent, its what gets wasted.

And *MUCH* gets wasted at all levels. Something we should all remember the next time more tax dollars are requested...

Here is a link to pictures and plans and discussion of a biodiesel still made from an electric water heater. No need to spend $3,000 -- check it out:

And here is another discussion forum about biodiesel:
