Our area is now at 26 inches of snow...We should be at at least 64 inches. By this time last winter, we were at 106 inches. This is so messed up...One of the first days of January, I had a flower bud on a rose bush and a fresh green sprout was coming up from the ground from the same plant. In the past, I've seen it on another rose bush in November, not January.
The maple tree in the back yard has buds on it and has had them for a few weeks. So far, it is the only one of our trees that I see like this, but it is still disconcerting to say the least. Today's high will be 36 degrees and we've had no real snowstorms. It is nothing for us to get a foot or two of snow dumped in a single storm and not even bother with closing schools. The snow is only sticking around for a few days here now...Not normal at all! |
Now that I like, not one mention of "global warming", that I saw. The earth is old and is ALWAYS changing. Lets all remember that.
|
I'm loving this warm winter weather. It has only gotten down to -16°F rather than the usual -25°F to -45°F we get for extended periods. It seems like the winds have been less brutal too.
What global warming alarmists forget is there have been warm winters like this before. And there have been far colder ones. We've had years when we got snow in every month of the year, even July. I can really do without that. Global cooling is far worse than global warming. Just ask all the people that starved during the mini-ice ages in the past centuries. |
Worst winter conditions at the cabin ever. The ice hasn't formed well because of the snow insulating it. So with less than 2 feet of ice there is an EPIC amount of snow on top pushing it down which creates overflow. Funny how the lake can't make ice when it is -46. It may break up early..... hopefully.

rain and 37 overnight but falling temps now so it will turn to ice
|
About 22F and snow falling again this morning. We got enough snow overnight to cover up the ice, which is nice!
|
Grass growing, flowers blooming, and my dog is shedding it's winter coat.
|
All of our snow is gone...The temperature was around 48 or so today.
|
The peaches are ripe which is a bit odd, that's a couple months early for them. It's a bit drier than usual but the temperatures are more or less normal. It got down to a bit under fifty the other night, though, that was pretty cold. You folks on the mainland have heaters in your houses, we don't here so when it's less than pleasant we have to go put on long shorts and socks and such.

Yum, peaches! We can grow Frost Peach here...not the same as Cling, which I so enjoy :) Our recent temp drop took out the new growth on my herbs (Winter has been so mellow, everything has been growing). We use a wood stove for heat, but air conditioning isn't necessary here. Most folks don't have them. The snow has melted almost completely, got up in low 40s here.
The weather has been interesting here, and we were blessed to have missed most of it, did get snow, but much less than surrounding areas. DH was disappointed the power didn't go out, as he was so well prepared for it. Also, actually complained we didn't get enough snow (packed in a lot of firewood...). There was a break last Saturday, in the snow, so our Slaughterer was able to make it up here. Our pigs had a party before their demise (blackberry wine and homemade beer). Neither of us drink, so this wasn't a sacrifice. We were given the beer, specifically for the pigs. |

Temps will be in the high 40s to 50 today here in Maine. I for one am loving the mild winter we have been having. We deserve it after the 8 months of winter(snow) we had last year. It hasn't been so warm that it's making trees or flowers bloom early though..
|
Temp supposed to be 57 today with rain tonight and tomorrow here in SWMO. It has gotten down to 13 for one night here. Hasn't been a bad winter at all and we sure could use as much rain as it wants to dump on us. It does make me nervous though; anytime the weather is weird it makes me nervous!

We've been having unseasonably warm weather. I figured, hey, might as well start the garden... So my dad and I have been putting together some raised bed boxes.
|
I agree. I worry what effect this will have on spring/growing season.
We are WAY down in snowfall for the season so far, and temps have been eerily high. (Yesterday it was 45 degrees) |
