Why not try and get yourself a wringer washer..??? If you can't find one locally I would go to a senior center and ask some of the old timers..They might have one sitting in their basement they would like to give away...Good Luck..

helena, a wringer washer is a good idea, i might look for one.

I think a wringer washer would be hard to find in New York City. I will look for one in Lancaster.

Wait a second! What are you trying to say? That we are a bunch of hicks who haven't come out of the early 20th century yet!

I'm joking of course! Yes we have a lot of Amish and they continue to expand throughout the County.. The farm I was born and raised on is now in Amish hands and likely will be for a very long time. We also have a lot of folks who still use some of the "old ways" to do some things. For example I still use a coal fired forge to do blacksmithing, (actually it's more tinkering than anything else) I also have been known to use old hand tools to do wood working instead of using power tools (which I do have). It's just more fun doing things by hand and actually lets you get a "feel" for the material you are working... It's also very relaxing and a learning experience..
Now don't get me wrong I do enjoy using modern technology and think it would be hard to go back to doing things with out it. But if it comes to that then some of us already have an upper hand on it..

No, just saying that people outside of the city have the room to leave things around a long time, or have places to store old stuff, and see the value in using old things that still work well. In the city space is so tight that people can barely save yesterdays mail let alone a giant double wash sink and great grandma's old wringer that no one has used in 40 years.

I use hand tools also, some of them work better then power tools.

Honestly, try craigslist or garage sales. I bought mine plus the stand for $10 bucks last year. LOVE them

City Bound,

Here is a wringer washer that will go up for auction Tuesday evening, Jan 17, 2012. It will be at Conestoga Auction Company, across the street from Root's Farmers Market.

The first picture in the link shows a wringer washer on the right hand side of the photo. Of course you can't really tell much from the photo and the condition can't be known from the photo..

Here's the link;http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/ph...zip=17347&kwd=

I'm at this auction every Tuesday evening.

From what can be seen appears as though it's always been an inside machine. Pretty sweet, I'm sure it will make someone happy.

Depending on who buys it it might just get scrapped..

While I scrap a lot of things that I get from the auction, there are some things I will try to sell or donate first. I would rather see some things used or reused by someone that needs them..

For example I just picked up 2 motorized hospital beds Wednesday and called our local non-profit Hospice to see if they could use them.. Unfortunately the beds, even though they were in good shape were too old, one was built in 78 and the other in 81. So they will be scrapped for the copper and aluminum and steel on Saturday.. I've already pulled the electric motor and most of the wiring from one, so that just leaves the aluminum, anything else is steel.
