Have plenty of test pilot chickens, Pancho

Shygal- do they smell worse than chickens? Between the houses, I have well over fifty chickens that while confined with ample space to move around, have nowhere near the space the turkeys will have.

Something to keep in mind is that while you can finish a meat type turkey in 4-5 months it usually takes 8-9 months to finish a heritage variety of turkey. If you go with a heritage variety they will need to arrive in March-April so you may want to plan ahead for temporary housing for the young turkeys until the pig is gone in June.

When I had them, I thought they were a lot worse than my chickens.

Our Bourbon Red hen was 7 months old and dressed out at 6.5 pounds just before Thanksgiving. We pushed the feed to her, too. The Broad Breasted Bronze tom, same age, was about 55lbs live weight. He'll be butchered here in another week or so.

And the turkey poops are much smellier than the chicken poops.

That makes me think when I was working in Processing Plant would Three Point them in Shackles. When would pull their Legs up it would put pressure on them and they would blow Poop all over my Front. Just make sure each time to move your Face over.
